Indoor Potting Problems? Try Disney

  1. Hey guys- my friend and I recently stumbled on something while looking for pots, and while on one hand I want to keep it my dirty little secret, I thought I'd share it with the community, as I personally spent a hell of a long time trying to find something like it, and was really pleased with what we got.

Now first off, let me just set the stage by saying that I wanted SQUARE 12" plastic pots for my plants. I was looking for a square shape because it gives a little more perimeter to work with when it comes to LST. Between trying to get something that is 12" Square (Most pots were either 4" in length or 14-15") and an actual square shape, all I got was a bunch of frustration. I went from gardening store to gardening store, home improvement store to home improvement store, and upon asking if they had square pots, they looked at me like I was nuts.

So finally, my friend and I were visiting yet another "local" (20 minute highway drive) gardening store. We were disappointed yet again when my friend suggested we take a longer look. I'm really glad he did. In a really weird, out of place children's aisle, he finds these plastic carts.

Now, to be brutally honest, my first reaction was essentially this:

"NO. No. N-O, NO. I am not going to get busted and be the guy who winds up on COPS growing marijuana in tinker fucking bell buckets. I wont do it. I am not going to be that guy in prison. I will be goddamned."

However, he persisted, and really insisted on me taking a second look at the baskets, and boy was I glad.

Upon looking at them, I realized they had plastic handles, 4 drainage holes already in the corners, as well as 4 built in wheels for easy moving. Now granted, these are very basic wheels, and dont exactly set the gold standard in handling, but they do allow very easy moving of the basket. To be honest, I was planning on looking into those old 4 wheeled tiny square scooters we used to use in elementary school, and attaching those to the bottoms of pots. That would've been incredibly expensive. Here these carts had them, and for only $9.99!

Well, these were just perfect. Perfect size (12.5" W, 13" L, 11.5" H) Square Shape, Drainage Holes, built in wheels, handles, easily stackable, the works. In addition, the carts were relatively cheap at only $9.99 a box. I was going to places that wanted $16-$20 for a pot that was too big for my purposes, didnt come with handles, wheels, or drainage holes.

So all in all, I was very pleased with the product, and bought as many as they had (16 total) and took them home ASAP. When the clerk asked what they were for, I told her I was donating to a local charity ;)

Anywho, I've included the information I found on the label on the box, so you can try looking into getting them yourselves. If people are still unable to find them locally/on the internet, I'd be willing to get them for people from the outlet assuming I'm compensated for gas/time. As I said, I can understand the frustration of trying to find the perfect pot, and I really liked how these turned out for the price.

For the record they came in 3 colors, tinker bell purplish, some racing car cartoon red, and a third one I cant remember; some other nonsense disney character. But again, all in all, really solid little things.

Hey just so you know Lowes and Home Depot all have square plastic pots in the sizes you were looking for.

P.S. loved that comment on the being the guy on cops with the tinkerbell buckets. Shit had me laughing. I can just see it now.

  3. I went to both in my area and asked for square pots and people looked at me like I was asking for a nuclear bomb.

If I was lucky, they had them 15" for like $18. Thanks though :)

  4. Hmmm.. any Flintstones ones?

  5. Heh, not that I saw, but I'm willing to bet they make a variety of designs.
