Indoor Mix Seeds in a Mini Closet Cab

Discussion in 'Micro Grows' started by highbeernation, Oct 25, 2012.

  1. I guess I'll get this right one of these days. Apparently I can't grow females for shit. Hopefully that changes.

I've started yet another grow. It first began with 3 plants, all of the bagseeds, until 1 failed to get off the ground and 1 had a problem with some surface mold. The third one still seems to be kickin'. I have a few good genetics seeds left from Dutch Seeds' indoor mix, but I'm not sure of the exact strain.

The healthier looking one is the indoor mix, and the one with the dying leaves is the bagseed. Both are a couple weeks old, but I can't remember how long. I have another good seed that I just planted today and am waiting for it to pop.

Setup is about a 1'x2'x3' box, 3 5600k CFL's, and an unfortunately small 4" computer fan as an active exhaust fan. Passive intake.

As soon as the other good seed pops (and hopefully it does in the right direction), I think I'm gonna weed that bagseed out. It'll probably hermie with my luck.

  2. Another boring but healthy picture of this little one. I decided to forget about that bagseed and focus on the good one and hopefully the sprout that doesn't look too good.

  3. Well, my growbox has thinned out considerably I guess. Apparently I don't know how to plant a seed very well, and the seed that I was waiting on didn't really make it. Since I've weeded out the bagseed and now my second unborn child, I just have the healthy plant left over.

Since it's now a spoiled single child, I repotted it into a larger pot than a solo cup and gave it a good drink of some FF GrowBig. It responded by drooping.

My question is, is this drooping caused by maybe a particularly heavy dose of nutes, or is it what I expect and because of the stress from repotting?

  4. So far so good. The plant looks really healthy. Definitely an indica from the fat leaves and short stout bush thats growing. It's on the 5th leaf set, and probably about couple weeks old. I wish i could remember when I planted this one

But yeah, it seems to be liking the new pot I put it in. I'll throw in another picture of my current growbox for any interested. I'll get around to painting the walls white some day..

  5. Should I really be going by how long a plant's been growing anyway? I figure it is just as good going by how mature the plant looks. Anyway. This plant is probably close to 4 or 5 weeks old, and is on the 7th leaf set. It's super compact and the side branches are just now starting to grow from some of the bottom nodes. I'm hoping to switch it into 12/12 soon, but I'm just not sure if it's ready.

Not having many problems, but as you can see from the picture, some of the leaf tips are starting to turn yellow and blacken off. That might actually be nute burn? I may have inadvertently mixed a bottle of FF GrowBig a little too strong and it didn't like it. So anyone with insight to that would be much appreciated.

In other good news, I replaced the fan on the box with a larger one. Instead of a wimpy old 92mm case fan I now have a good sized 140mm fan. From putting my hand near it, it feels around the same if not a little better amount of airflow, but with luck it'll keep the temps from 3 CFLs down better.

Looking good! I don't pay attention to how mature the plant is if your height restricted, plant will flower at almost any size. But the longer you veg and the more mature a plant is results in a larger harvest.

I grow the plant as long as i can before I lose room to flower. Because I'm working with restrictions. Just keep in mind depending on strain plants can stretch 4-8 inches and even more if sativa.

This is why ppl LST, or scrog. To griot only keep the plant lower but to mature the plant as long as possible versus growing straight up.

I topped my plant resulting in 2 main colas with 2 large secondaries, by Tieing the larger tops down allows for the smaller undergrowth to grow to canopy level.
This is a pic from my last grow using this method plus some FIM'ing.

It does look like you may have nute burn, how many nute feedings and how often, it's better to start at half the recommended dose.

  7. So yeah, I definitely think it was some nute burn. What I had been doing was just mixing a smart water bottle full and eyeballing it, but since then I've diluted it more. Any of the new growth looks healthy, and whatever damage that was done seems to have been it.

But yeah, it's growing! It droops when it doesn't have enough light when my timer messes up, but that's normal. It's starting to get some undergrowth too! Not much right now, but I'm not sure how to scrog this well enough to get good light down there without tying this plant all over the place. I'd love to start flowering soon, but I feel like it could be much bigger. Should I consider switching over?

  8. If hight is an issue like mine I top, split the plant into 2 main colas and 2 secondaries. I tie them down as they grow and I spread them out, and that allows you to veg longer and all the side and under growth to make it way to conopy level. Check out my grow I have going right now. Scroging is just as simple, weave the plant in an out of the screen untill all available tops are coming out.

  9. Holy. Fuck. What have I done to my precious plant?? I have seemingly all but killed it. It looks absolutely terrible! I can only think of the few things that I've been doing that probably can't be too good for it.

My guess is that the nute mix I've been using is far too strong for it, even though I diluted it (apparently not enough). I flushed it as best I could, but who knows what kind of damage has already been done. These leaves are brown and crispy! That's not how it should be!
I also tied it down with some wire, trying to freeform SCRoG it as best I could without making something better, but it really doesn't seem to like what I've done. Needs a couple more days to grow out?

I also FIM'd it, which may be it's downfall as well. The new top growth is coming in slowly, but probably not surely.

But fuck! It's still in veg! Is there any hope left for this little survivor?

  10. I'm sure you could still save it...I don;t wanna pretend I know what the problem is but you could always just trim those big fan leaves. Might not be such a bad idea actually...

  11. Btw...what size pot are you using?

  12. @Quik- I'm not around the plant currently, but the pot is probably about 5" in diameter and 6" deep? It's kind of a small pot but I'm trying to work with the small space I have.

I did take the advice though and trimmed off those dying fan leaves. The two that were left at the top are the most majorly burned ones right now, but they don't seem as nasty and crumbly as the other ones.
A lot of the growth on the main stalk doesn't seem to have any adverse effects that the other leaves had either. Maybe I'm in the clear right now? I haven't used any nutes since this whole incident though.

First two pics are from soon after I trimmed it, and then the third pic is from a couple days after the fact. It looks like it's rebounding okay. I'm sure I stressed it the fuck out more by changing the photoperiod to flower, but maybe it won't care. Here's hoping that I finally get a female plant instead of a shitty bagseed

  13. Well, it's looking better than it has before. Its 2weeks into flowering right now, and it's definitely made a turn around since having all the fan leaves burned off. So far no sign of preflowers, which means it's not a male yet. Maybe this one is just a little root-bound and doesn't give a fuck. There's a little bit of yellowing on the edges of the leaves, but that could also be because I haven't been feeding it since the last mishap.

I managed to LST the lower-most side branches down a little bit, but the top is nowhere near where I could want it to be. Right now it looks kinda like a retarded palm tree. The next step is to figure out how to pin back the top-most fan leaves so the middle section gets enough light. Right now it doesn't seem to be getting enough at all, which would be why it's not as developed as the lower sections that got spread out.

So far so good then. All I can do is wait for some good sign of sex

  14. Almost two weeks between posts? No wonder nobody's paying attention to this thread, haha. But anyway..

I guess this would be about 4weeks into the flowering photoperiod, and I'm pretty sure this plant growth has ssslllloooooowwwweeeddd dddoooowwwwnnn. I would likely point the blame at being root bound. It's just now beginning to show preflowers, and hopefully near the end of the week I can make a definite guess as to what sex this stupid plant is. I tried with my girlfriend's nice macro lens, but couldn't get any good pictures up close; besides, it's too early to actually tell.

Health-wise, it's doing fine. Most of the stems seem unnaturally long and thin, save a few, but maybe that's just the genetics? Idunno. Most of the leaves that got brown and crispy have been cut, and I've done my best to not over-nute this baby (if anything it's probably not getting fed enough now).

The LST is all over the place. I've done my best to try to tie down branches to get enough light, but near the middle of the plant it's hard to find a good spot to put any of them. As a result, the bottom side branches are all around the rim of the pot while the middle is a mess and the top got topped and those two are growing straight up.

Fingers still crossed for a female this time...

  15. It's been 6 weeks of 12/12 by my count, and I had a feeling something was incredibly wrong. My best guess is a combination between wwaayy too strong nutes, being very rootbound, and just not enough love perhaps.

This plant was only side branches at this stage, and they were pretty healthy up until I decided to feed it with whatever I had made. It happened earlier in this plant's life too! The entirety was singed off and ended up getting completely clipped off. Two strikes and I give up.

The other problem was that there was absolutely no visible sex growth during the entire time it should have been growing it. I know weed is a hardy plant after everything it went through from me, but this was getting ridiculous.

So I give up. This plant is getting unmanageable and just isn't turning out how it should have (or looked like it should have, from the beginning of it's life). I might finally cave in and buy feminized seeds and save myself the trouble. I'm sure I can answer my own question, but it's totally worth it to buy female seeds if that's the long-term goal, right?

  16. Oh man that plant is gone. I haven't had the cash to pick up any decent nutes and soil. Just running mg soil and mg veg and flower. From what I have seen just keep the nutes regular. And when introducing additives to ease into them.
