I am planning on converting an old plastic truck bed liner that fits perfectly in my closet into a flower bed that fits perfectly in my closet, but because I want to use the bed liner for a hydro res later I am hesitant about drilling any drianage holes that I wont want later. my friend says his friend lines his closet with panda paper and fills it directly with dirt, there is no drainage there either. My bed is about 3x3 and maybe 15 inches deep (perfect fit under a 600 watt lucky me) In a bed situation since there is so much soil and so many plants that will soak up any extra water, so will it be an issue? I can put PVC tubes down to the bottom for aeration, or put a layer of pearlite on the bottom, what do you think?
kay, here's what ya do. line the bottom 2 inches with hydroton (leca, expanded clay pellets, whattever) get some 3 inch wide pvc piping. cut 4 pieces. they should rest snuggly on the hydroton and still stick up about 2 inches above the top of the bed. drill 2 screws per pipe in each corner. now all you do is add soil.
