Indoor Apartment Grow ~2 months Need some advice

  1. Good evening all,

I have plans for an indoor grow when I find a new place in about 2 months. I will lay out what I have planned and any constructive criticism is appreciated. First off, I will say I am a n00b to growing weed, but I have quite a few friends that can give me pointers. On the bright side of things, I have grown vegetables for over 10 years in my family's garden (so I have some idea whats happening). Since I'll be leasing a 2/2 by myself, I'll have the extra bedroom to grow in. On average 10x10 or a little bigger for the grow room. I have decided to split the room in two so I can veg in one part and flower in the other. After getting settled in, I'll be able to flower more often :) For cloning/seeding, I'll figure out a spot for that (proly in the attached bathroom to grow room or else where). I'll be using ebb/flow hydroponic systems b/c where I live its hard to get rid of a bunch of dirt :) On top of that, I plan on having a friend help me build a battery back up system for all the pumps....it couldn't hurt. I"ll have 2x600W in the veg and 2x600W in the flower. As for lamps go, Hortilux 600W HPS and not completely decided on what MH lamps I'll buy. I have decided on Future-brite 600W digital ballasts. The reflectors I am leaning towards buying are the Sunlight Cool Sun XL or the Sunlight Super Sun 2. They both have the tempered glass and venting solution on the side so I'll be able to vent the heat straight out. Mylar on all the walls and ceiling, oscillating fans, and custom venting solution I plan to build. The air from the room will be pulled into a "box" where ozone will be mixed with it and pushed elsewhere. Not quite sure if I'll buy light movers for the veg and flower partitions, but I'll definitely buy them by the second grow if not in the first. I plan on Scroging instead of doing the normal grow method. I am meticulously researching the scrog method so I should be fine on that. Goals for this grow: best efficiency for maximum output (but what the hay, don't we all?) I am still researching some of the stuff I need, but I was hoping you all at the wonderful GC could help me out. Here are a few questions:

    1) What nutrients brands do you prefer for cloning, vegging, and flowering?
    2) What MH lamps do you prefer/had the best success with?
    3) For the cloning/seeding area, do you think I could use CFL's or would you buy a small wattage MH? -- If I could get away with CFL's I may go that way to save some money of electric.

    4) What do you use for controlling humidity and why?

-- I ask b/c I was looking for something better than just a regular humidifier from Walmart or where ever.
    5) What is your method of venting?
-- I will not be able to vent into the sewers, so I'll be venting into the attic or directly outside. Here's where my question gets interesting. If I made a "box-ish" thing that fit in the bottom of my window to vent air, do you think that would be "safe"? As far as safe goes, the popo's in their helies are not knocking on my door :p

Thank you all for your time and I'll definitely take everything into consideration.

  2. Hey welcome to GC there is lots of information, in grow journals and indoor growing and techniques. I've learned so much from great members threwout the board so please discover it.

  3. Hey buddy, your plan seems VERY similar to what i have planned out.

Foxfarm fertilizers and soil all the way.
For cloning, use CFLs cause your already looking at drawing alot of power.... If it doesnt work out, you can always upgrade to a small mh system.

Oh by the ways, the futurebrite ballasts are absolutely amazing!!! good choice there.... supersun system 2 reflectors i have for sale. I have 2 of them. I plan on getting larger reflectors like the supersun XLs u were talking about. they are 20x24 inches versus 20x 14 inches... I think bigger the reflector, the more area you can light up with the lights closer to the plants... just my 2cents peace holmes

  4. Ya, I've been planning this for about a month now... btw...I will be definitely watching your next grow :) In your last one, there is a tooon of good info from Odin and few others I can't think of at the moment. Also, your the one that "inspired" me to look into the Future-brite ballasts. Laters
