Indicator lights on power strips, space heaters a problem?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Nivek Smorts, Dec 27, 2012.

  1. I have a silly question. Does the little red or green light on power strips and space heaters present a problem when in 12/12. I am assuming not, but you can see the little red glow bouncing off the mylar from the power strip.

  2. Green light will not harm. Has to be green. Plants use red light spectrum.

  3. its probably fine, but Id tape it over, maybe make it a little flap that can be opened and closed easily if I ever wanted to see what the lights were doing...

  4. Many growers have had hermies due to this. If you can see light, so can the plants....unless it's green, this will cause photoperiod stress

  5. Thanks for the info. It's only been 4 nights into the 12/12 so I will cover it with tape or a towel. Good catch!

  6. That early into 12/12 you will be ok..... i made the same mistake on early into flowering on my first grow and had no ill effects. Good thing you caught it early!

  7. Agree that power strip lights can mess up the plants, seen it happen to really good growers.

But the green light thing has a nugget of truth in it but is more likely to mislead you to make a big mistake. Truly green light should not affect your plant, but a green light could be emitting a lot more colors than just green light. A white light bulb with a green filter still includes light from other spectra, thus can affect your plant. So no party bulbs from Walmart. But a truly pure green light, such as LED, should not harm your plant. Still, the safest approach is to leave dark completely dark, there's really no need during the dark cycle to use light of any color, you have 12 hours of light every day to tend to your plants.

  8. Thanks for clearing that up.
