It's hard to tell unless you know where they came from. I was told that the general shape of the leaves may provide some information about how much indica or sativa is in the strain but it's not fool-proof. Seedlings always have big fat leaves and they'll thin out later. For what reason are you concerned about the species of cannabis you're growing? Are you worried they'll get too tall or are you worried about the kind of smoke you'll be getting? There are ways to deal with keeping the height down but if you're worried about the quality of smoke, I'll be more than happy to check it for you when it's ready.
