Indica vs Sativa

  1. I have allot of questions about Indicas vs Sativas from freinds well here is what i found.

Indicas are short and have fat leaves.

Sativas are tall and have skinny leaves.

Indicas usually have a lower THC conntent then Sativa but give more of a sleepy body high.

Sativas have a higher THC content and give you more of a up, artistic, mind high.

Indicas are better for an indore grow becouse their not so tall and they yeild better than Sativas.

Sativas are better for outdoor growing to maximize yeild and they can get to be 10' tall.

Hybrids are a mix of Indica and Sativa. If the strain is more dominant indica (70/30) Indica/Sativa you will get more of the Indica affect.

  2. That's more or less the basic idea. These are not absolutes, though. And many strains are hybrids that can offer blended characteristics.

  3. how old (or tall) do they have to be before you can identify which you have??

  4. I would say if you didn't know what it was before you planted it, you're not going get more than a general idea once they're growing. If you bought seeds, look at the packaging and it should tell you. If you planted bagseed it's probably a commercial hybrid that will show some characteristics of both.

I disagree with the THC content part from the thread starter. THC content is all over the place within each variety; an example from dutch passion: purple star(100% indica) is 5.7% and Mazar (~90% indica) is 19.5%. While Shaman (87%Sat./13%Ind) is 13.7% vs. Durban poison(100% sativa) is 8.6%.

Other than that it's good basic info...

  5. It really just depends. I guess you really can't know for sure until you've chopped and tested the final product. With what I've seen, they usually take their final shape soon into flowering but it can really vary widely. For example the Cinderella 99s I've ran have all started out short and bushy with relatively broad leaves. By the time they are a couple of weeks into flower they are much more spindly with very long slender leaves. There aren't many pure sativas or pure indicas (a lot of the ones that are advertised as pure aren't) out there so most of the strains you'll run across have been hybridized at some point and to varying percentages.

  6. Yeah I disagreed with the THC content thing: I'm growing White Russian....Indica, a cross between WHite Widow and AK - 47, and the description said it was the smellyest and had a very high THC content (20%). One of the Cannabis Cup winners.

  7. I agree that it is incorrect to say that one has more THC than the other. Anyway, there are more chemicals that effect the buzz than just THC. I think THC % is really quite overrated. I guarantee there are plenty of 10% THC strains that'll wreck your head much more than some 15%+ strains. There is still much to be discovered about which cannaboids effect the buzz and how. It's way more complicated than the percentage of one chemical.
