Hey guys, this is something I do from time to time to increase the diffusion in my d-cut diffuser. The end of mine is closed somewhat, and... well, you'll see. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w_0vcMevQQ]YouTube - Diffusion[/ame]
Yo thats pretty cool, can we see a milk shot comparison video? I heard of bbs as diffusers before but i was picturing a handful of bbs in the bottom of the tube or something. If this is an original idea I'm going to +rep the shit out of you
I dont know if its just me, but i really dont see that much of a difference. i mean, i could see if you put a bunch of bbs in the actual beaker, but im not sure if one tiny bb in the downstem would do much
All its doing is closing off the bottom hole forcing the smoke out of the slits instead of through the bottom. I guess it could diffuse it more but it would probably add a ton of drag
i remember a thread like this.. i think theres something wrong because of the fact that BBs are plastic.. why not get the glass diffuser beads?
yeah that's a little different. I've used glass beads in an ashcatcher before, or in a straight tube, but that's a different way of diffusing them. If you put a bb in the bottom of the downstem it closes off the end hole and forces the air out of the slits. It doesn't add a lot of drag unless you fill the water quite high, and all my friends have noticed the difference in hit. It's more of an airy hit, gives it an interesting feel. And I've never seen anyone do it before, I just noticed that large chunks of ash have done it before and I thought why not just try it with a bb.
thanks man, it really makes for a different hit and you can get a lot of variety by playing around with the water levels and blocking the end hole. It's a lot better to do it when you have an ashcatcher though, as the small slits aren't sufficient for draining chunks of ash.
