incandescent vs. florescent

  1. two 250w 3 stage soft white bulbs vs. a 28in 35w flor. The plants are about 6 inches and just about to make the 5 finger. Temperary untill i get those cfls which from that write up seem to do the job. By the way how much are hps's. And where would you bye one close to the casa? Oh yeah organic miracle grow suck bawl. And im broke this shit cost like 30 bucks majority of witch goes to the shitty fan whitch wouldnt even keep my nut sack cool. But it does the job (so far)

  2. there is no vs. argument. Incandescent lights DO NOT work. Fluros do.

  3. the only thing incandescents do is make light and waste electricity. HPS would be best, but im growing two plants inside a computer, known as the "server" and im selling the bud to buy good lights. :D

  4. All three of my plants have been under the incandescents for about 16 days and all three look healthy and full at about6 inces average but i do plan on getting a hps light when im ready to flower.
    -how much do they run?
-where can i buy one locally to me?
will switching to the 28 in fluro fuck with the plants? will the fluro cut down on my veg. time? Maybe cfls?

  5. they are probably getting other light from either a window or somethign because incandescent lights make yellow spectrum light which plants cant use, you need blue (fluorescent or metal halide) and red (fluorescent high pressure sodium) spectrum for veg and flowering cycles respectively.

  6. If youa re just starting out or on a shoe string budget, go to walmart and buy the bigggest Compact Flourescent lightbulbs you can find (they say 42 watt=150watt) these will make a ton of light and you will be very happy with the results. one bulb is about 9 dollars.

  7. Actually theres no outside light at all cause its my boiler room witch has its own vent systm so :D . But im getting the same reaction everywhere about the incandect lights. Since i have the 35w flor. I think ill switch over to that until i get to wal-mart for the cfls. where about to get about two feet of snow where im at so probably like sunday ill put them in. BUT SWITHCING TO THE FLOR. IS A GOOD IDEA UNTIL SUNDAY? and would a local hardware store of plant depot carry the hps lights i really want to get one before i start the 12/12

  8. Yes switching over to a Flouro or CFL will greatly increase your production rate, I would do that about.... right now. Let me know if you get a HPS because my lowes sells all sorts of HID bulbs but I cant find a ballast for it in the store. Right now your best bet would be CFLs, they are very good. I have 4 2' fluorescent grow lights and I put one 42 watt CFL and took out all the other lights... what a waste of money they were. Good luck, Ill be here for any other questions you have.

  9. WOW nice response time man. Alright it settled im going to set up the floro. right now until sunday and than grab those cfls. Im gonna keep the alluminum houseing (cones) and i can just screw in the cfls right? I just hope they wont be any harsh reprocutions due to the fact that theyve been on these lights for this long and now im switching but it really seems to be the smartest choice i shoud have read up on that to begin with. Alright im off thanks for the info its all greatly appreciated. Oh yeah those lights are fucking $$$$ but i guess your gettin what you pay for right? How do you guys feel about all the low stress training techniques?

  10. LST is awesome especially if you are pressed for space. Also, don't worry about them reacting to the lights, they will thank you for getting the right spectrum. The only thing you should think about when you get the CFLs is the lamp/socket you use. The CFLs are bigger than an incandescent bulb so they may nto fit in your lamp but don't worry because walmart has some worklight lamps which is a cone reflector, a strong clamp, and a light socket. If this doesnt work there are also light sockets that can simply be plugged into an electrical outlet. : )

  11. Alright dude i got my light about 3" from the tops. It was a real pain in the ass all i gotta say is hangers and shoelaces. Considering i did still manage to get it directly above them. And ill just plan to buy the lights and the reflector. Theres about a 4x2 area open for the three so im going to try and keep them relatively short and spread out across the plain i guess you do this by tying certain growths in specific areas right. Do you think i could get a good yeild that way. But thanks for that light issue man

  12. ugggh incandescent lights. they make nice light for around the house but for any other use, they BLOW. Same with halogens. CFLS r the way 2 go i've been growing my five big bushy plants under cfls since the start and they are mind boggelingly healthy it is also strange because the soil theyre in is either shit local soil or reused potting soil with their food being cactus nutes. whatever those aluminum reflector clamp lamps will work great with cfls go for it.

  13. Right on man. How cool does yours run. Im intrested to see the contrast between the two cause those ohter bulbs were fukin beastin for sure. I could already count atleast a dozen times getting my scalp horribly torched while inspecting without moving my pots Pretty stupid but i didnt want to injure my babys lol. Ive learned my lesson though and threw a fan on them now there feeling pretty thick. Im doing some reading on super cropping and Lst methods but times limited to about 15 weeks max all the way to harv. Do you think thats enough time see better results than a single cola style? Yous are bushy is that strain related or your doing? ;)

  14. Indicas are more bushy suitable for indoor rgowing while sativa types are tall for outdoor which I don't like because I would like to grow sativa inside b/c of the high but... oh well. If you have bushy plants thats also a good thing on your part because they are healthy and don't have to stretch for light. Keep the lights as close as you can and they will be more bushy, the more they stretch the more space inbetween the growth nodes and more space wasted.
Also I keep my CFLs about 2 inches away from the tops so 3 should be good.
The DFLs can get hot enough to burn your scalp/ plants but if you have a small fan blowing on it, they are pretty much cool to the touch, I have only a slight breeze on them and when I have it on the bulb I can place my plant very close to it without it burning.

  15. lol. Cool man so just directing the breeze directly on them will keep them contained sounds good. Hopefully ill be able to afford the hps while im flowering. thanks

  16. Yeah if you cant afford it you can just go with some CFLs for flowering too, you will still get good results and save a bunch of money.
