In-Vitro Meat The Future

Discussion in 'Science and Nature' started by Abundant, Feb 26, 2012.

  1. In-vitro meat. It sounds weird but I think this is just a paradigm that needs to be shifted. This is a really nifty solution that could:

    • Eliminate 96% of green house gas emissions from our meat farming
    • Reduce 45% of the energy costs
    • Requires only 2% of the current farmed land
    • Make our meat healthier by eliminating saturated fat

    I'd like to "take the pulse" on this issue. For me, a future optimist I see it as the most solid way of helping to tackle a myriad of issues, health, our environment, animal cruelty, health, resource scarcity, and did I mention health? I see where this innovation is heading and, though weird, it looks good. There are a TON of applications after this has been streamlined and "mainstreamed" and there is also a HUGE opening for development in conjunction with vertical farming.

    So what does the community think?

  2. I think people need to eat less meat

  3. Genetically modified meat. Certainly not something I'm interested in.

    I too think we should eat much less meat. Plants provide better nutrients.

  4. Should be cheaper than regular meat.

  5. As much of a happy spin as they put on the subject;

    there is still a dark side - humans are ignorant.

    So regardless of the fact that we are improving morally,

    we may lead ourselves to believe that we can continue

    to grow in population and inhabit new parts of the world;

    all thanks to genetically engineered meat,

    which has allowed us to maintain the image of peaceful loving creatures.

    Then we might look around us at the world we're living in and think;

    look how many people die from spider bites and tigers every year!

    We need to stop all violence and harm on Earth!

    Besides that - the artificial meat culture could become an industry!

    One that is stagnant, and disallows the experimentation that this technology provides an opportunity for.

    I'll also mention - and this is all important, so you should be remarking on your observations as well -

    that there are angry people who are in charge of castrating and killing animals,

    and all sorts of other grotesque acts, such as harvesting bull semen,

    who will have nothing left to take their anger out upon,

    and will be left without a job.

    So, if you took a look at the Politics section of the forum,

    you might begin to realize how ridiculous all of our worries are,

    and how they might be turned into a more reasonable conversation;

    about how things ultimately need to change.

  6. Huh? You've got to frame your argument better. I'm not sure what you're saying. Lack of bull semen jobs will make angry people more prolific, and some other stuff that I need more clarification on.

    Seriously, this isn't a slight on you but I need some frame of reference here, your writing style is a bit loose.

  7. You don't need more clarification, you just need to stop caring so much.

  8. Gotcha, non-invested interest. It's a want to care no one needs to care.
