been literally 13 days of my harlequin drying in a lil 3x3 tent in 62-72F temps n 52-72 humidity mostly around 60,62-65%. yet idk if its done yet n im confused on how the snap test works. it went from bendy to being hard as a soft tree twig or smthng then just as of a few days ago so 7 days it was bending like bending a frozen mcdonalds straw in half but theres no crack or crunch? is it ready to trim or how much longer? im worried ab it now. the 3x3 is exhausting to outside w a inline fan on high except for today i turned it down lower. i just didnt want there to be much smell so i had it on high speed for 10 days. first grow n harvest ever btw. now just today on the 13th day only one branch had a tiny lil crunch on one spot of its branch twoards main stem, is it supposed to crunch on entire branch up and down? or just the first ever lil crunch. sry im having the hardest time learning the crunch/snap test. idk whats too soon or too late. the flowers feel sorta like cotton balls which one person said was normal which i wouldnt have thought of before that i thought it was supposed to feel like hard or fluffy nugs rdy from a dispensary
I'm still pretty new to this myself, but honestly if I had to wait till my branches actually snapped like u see in some videos, my bud would be dry as dust, what I do is hang whole for a few days, then trim down individual branches, hang again for another few days until my buds are just a bit crispy on the outside, then ill trim buds off and put in cardboard box or brown paper bag for another few days until im satisfied with how dry they feel..then trim up buds and pop into jars for at least 30 days
The bend or snap test is just one way of testing a hanging plant for dryness. Another test is to take a small sample off a drying bud (maybe pull back some an get a pinch from inside a bud) and see if it is dry enough to smoke. If it doesn’t easily burn let it remain as is to continue drying. If it easily burns and the rest of the buds feel like the one you sampled I then put the buds up in air tight containers (I use canning jars). Once jar’d you now want to inspect the jars several times a day for dryness/moisture. A lot of times buds that feel dry will soften up after being jar’d due to internal moisture. If this is the case leave the lids off or even remove from the jars if it isn’t dry enough to smoke. After a few days when I know the buds are dry I continue to inspect the jars daily but unless I see a problem I leave the jars sealed. If you do this properly your buds will still retain enough moisture to cure and preserve your bud without leaving too much moisture which leads to mold/mildew. Buds jar’d like this can last years with minimal degradation in potency.
You can also use a humidity meter inside with your jar’d buds to monitor moisture level but I find that going by being “dry enough to smoke” works just fine.
do u have a link to a vid that shows the snap u mean? first grow ever for me doing my best to learn it

The snap test is a good indicator, but ONLY to be used on the smaller branches. As stated, if you wait until the larger stems snap before curing it will be too dry. Once the smaller stems start snapping i usually start jarring. But the larger ones are usually still somewhat bendy. You'll get a feel for it after a few grows. But definitely err on the side of caution. Under dry is fixable. Over dry is not.
im super confused and this is my first grow ever but the flowers still feel like cotton balls w moisture. have an amazing pine orange mango smell not very strong yet its been 14 days now and one small branch had a super small crunch a couple days ago yet i just checked today n none of em do it anywhere now. is this normal?
i even try to brush the flowers w my cannabrush to try n trim yet they just fold back no falling off or anything
It sounds like they're just not quite ready. Maybe try to get that humidity down. I'm actually a little jealous. A slow dry is what you want.
Check out YouTube..lots of videos of ppl on there show how they harvest, step by step, lots of hints and tips..mr. canucks grow, bill ward, Kyle kushman, welcome to the grow tent, so many, watch a few to give u ideas and then its up to u to figure out what works best for u
My channel Growing With Gold Tooth Gang had a short video on curing drying and trimming! Hope this helps you out!
Snap test is done on the smallest of small stems, usually a stem to a small bud. It should snap off cleanly without a string of bark hanging on. And it makes a nice snap. Drying time actually will depend on how you chopped it, trimmed it and hung it. If you left all the leaves on and cut it so there was lots of stalk, it will dry slow. If you wet trimmed all the leaves off and minimized the stalk length, it would dry much faster. Quit squeezing the flowers, you’re breaking trichomes. This was good advise and bears repeating: “Under dry is fixable. Over dry is not.”
If you can keep your humidity at 60-65, you could literally wait a year to trim it. I usually let my plants hang for 2-3 weeks, then start trimming which takes me another 2-3 weeks.
tyvm for this info! ive been worried! so i cant use my cannabrush? i cant get the humidity lower in the tent and the goal was to not lose terpenes so i tried for 62%-65% humiditiy or a lil higher cuz it happens. also the yr thing", so u dont do the snap test at these levels?
If your weed is so dry that you can "brush" the leaves off, its way to dry. For a proper long cure, you want to maintain ~62% humidity. Whether you do that in a jar, a bag, a bucket, a tent, etc etc as long as you can keep that humidity ~62%, it wont hurt the weed. I think i lose a bit of the crazy potent smell when you open a jar because of how long i let it sit out in the open but once I grind/smoke it, best ive ever had.
