  4. I don't think it's weird at all, hon! The lady who helped take care of my father when he was a child, practiced Obeah. He had a very healthy respect for it, but he didn't talk much about it.

I don't have anything on Obeah in my List, but I do have a rather long (5 pages), but interesting article on "Roots Daughters", Jamaican women who use cannabis. Obeah women are often herbalists, so I expect that a few may have been interviewed for this article. (I note that it was done the same year that you were born. :))

    Evolution of a Roots Daughter. (USA) (full – 1987) http://cifas.us/pdf/Fieldwork and Research/Cannabis/Books/Dreher/1987_EvRootsDaughter_Dreher.pdf

Have a Happy New Year! :yay: :weed:

  6. Hi Dizzy
    Please excuse my directness.
How can you have both beliefs ? Christianity, the Bible pretty much outs all false religions including Voo Doo.
I support everyones right to worship the god of your choice or what ever belief you may have.
In the Bible I believe a woman called Lydia and I believe it was Paul was friends with her .
    I think, I haven't looked it up, I can be wrong .

For me it would be a internal struggle to support both beliefs.
    How about you?

  7. Rastafarianism lives symbiotically with Christianity - drawing slightly different conclusions from the same source. Obeah may share some of those tenants. I find myself with more questions than answers when exploring any and all religions but have learned and lived long enough to respect that the peace others find in the practice is enough to sooth their troubled soul. I'm unashamedly jealous of that.

Well Honestly Iain Really Probably A Christain In The Way You Mean. I Don Go To Church An Stuff Like That But I Just Believe In God An Also The Opposite Number Are Both Real An So Is Heaven An Hell An Several Other Places. Mainly I Just Try To Live Well An Be Kind To People As Much As I Can. Obeah Is 1 Of My Best Beliefs Too An Useful An Relaxin To Me Tho I Keep Open Mind Bout Tings An Kinda Make My Own Path In Religious Matters I Guess. Obeah Always Work When I Use It So My Beliefs Are Really Justified IMO An My Faith Innit Strong!.

  9. The way I see it, is that every religion has 3 things in it- the history of the people, "God Talk" and "priest talk".

History is history and is half truths most of the time, but that's just normal human behavior. The victors get to write the history books. :coolalt:

"God Talk" is the stuff that does not change no matter which religion you are talking about- the "love thy neighbor as thyself", "pray now and then", and "be a good person". This is the part we should be paying attention to.

Then there is the "priest talk"- "OUR way is the ONLY WAY, and all others are damned heretics", and "make large offerings to the "church" so you, too, can be "holy"". The "priest talk" divides into "us and them", and benefits the priesthood in numerous ways. I try to ignore the "priest talk".

When it comes to religion, the truth is, we are all guessing! So just pay attention to the "God Talk", and remember we are ALL children of the Creator (no matter how some long-ago priests chose to twist things)!

  11. Damn Granny I was composing a whole reply to this but you nailed it! Ain't no talk like God talk. :D

@Dizzy you go girl, so glad you have a good solid spiritual journey there. Makes me want to get back into my pagan practices. Definitely good to practice the God talk with paganism bc that is so mischaractarized.... but that's a whole other thread lol. But lately I have decided I am just gonna LOVE Jesus. IDC what you wanna call Him, Christian, who cares, Catholic, Protestant, Jesus is AWESOME. I can just see Him, this cool dude smoking weed and watching us fall all over ourselves. He's standing back and laughing, saying, "I'm Here when you need Me.". Why can't I call the pagan God Jesus? In a way He is but I don't want to get too deep and confuse you guys. But seriously...
It all comes from one powerful Force(May the Force Be With You) imo. Obeah, Christianity, God and Goddess, Frog Jesus, it's all DIVINE.
Anyway blessed be y'all, peace out!!! :smoking-banana:
