My goal is to make the plant be more bushy then tall. I once accidentaly clipped the top stem and two shoots grew, but they still grew tall as shit so that didnt help. How do you actually top. Do you just start cutting right before new leaf growth? Im not getting it Im kind of a visual learner lol.
It helps to top more than once through the plants life. If you first top at the 4th node, then let it grow the two tips you mentioned and top them also it will create the shorter plant you're looking for. The more you top the better. Are you growing inside or planning an outdoor grow?
So do I only cut at the last top stem? because im lookin at this picture and it shows making cuts at the last top one and a few branches down...If you remove the one a few branches down it's also going to take the top branch with it, which makes no sense why you have to remove the top one when removing the one below it will essentially be the new top of the plant....Im doing outdoor in camo pots.

I love camo pots. Just cut at the very top of the plant, removing the top set of leaves. If there are lower branches forming, you can cut the tops off the other branches too. Some people remove the very bottom branches to force the plant to focus its energy on the top colas.
Oh nice. So pretty much only cut the top of the main stems a few times and not the branches on the side?

Then it will grow two tops and some branches. Cut the two tops again AND the tips of any branches that are getting long. Have you ever seem a movie with someone fighting a two headed dragon. They cut the heads off and think they are done, but suddenly it has four heads. They cut the four and it comes back with 8. That's what you need to do to your play. Every tip needs topped. Whether it be a main stem or a branch. You'll get the hang of it. I recommend watching a few YouTube videos.
Is it worth topping in an outdoors grow? (its sativa) I dont want the plant to get too tall and then the colas will just sink down and ill need stakes and such
awesome simile! how do you like LST training compared to topping?
They're really best used in conjunction. Topping makes multiple top colas and LST allows more light to them.
