    Cheapest but decent quality

  3. Hey man, I just started too. Cheapest setup that I've found is CFLs and soil. You'd need at least 150w of lights for two plants so it'd be at least three lights. Prices are like 15-20$ for a lamp and good cfl bulb so like $60-80 investment maybe less depending on what kind of lights you choose to buy. Most of the things you need for germination can be found around your house. There are a lot of threads that are stickied that will tell you how. Other than that all you need is a good soil and nutes, or just soil if you go organic. check the indoor growing section for nutes you'd need and the organic sections will teach you how to build a quality soil.

    Good luck!

  4. Could you give me a run down of everything I need and a price on everything. I understand if you don't want to but it would help greatly

  7. hey Detroit main thing to remember is simplest is better, my basic set-up that I start my seedlings with and grow my plants to about a ft tall with before transplanting cost me under 30 bux and i can show you pics to see how good the results are. First get some basic MG potting soil with the 6 months of nutes built in,$7-8, second with 2 plants up to 5 plants you will want 2 double bulb t/12 shoplights with 4 cool white w40t/dx bulbs $20, 1 gallon planter with water reservoirs buck a piece. Set it up to where you can keep the bulbs 2 inches above the plants at all times which means a way to raise and lower the lightsas needed always keep the light 2 inches any highe and you risk stem stretch which results in weak plants.Last water with distilled water until they are about a month old and then slowly start adding in nutes once to twice a month only as needed.

  10. Check out the following:
BOOK: The Cannabis Grow Bible by Greg Green
Videos: Jorge Cervantes Grow DVD's (You can find them on youtube)

The following is great for a first grow for anyone

    SOIL:
    Fox Farm Ocean Forest

    NUTRIENTS:
Advanced Nutrients Line (can be expensive)
    Fox Farm Line(budget friendly)

NOTE: If you are growing outdoors the following information you do not need to read.
    INDOOR GROWERS

    Exhaust Fan:
Each fan has a rating that tells you how many cubic feet of air per minute (CFM) it will move. When dealing with above average temperatures you will want your fan to exchange the grow room air 3-5 times in one minute, so for a room that is 40 cubic feet, a fan that is capable of moving 120-200 cfm (cubic feet per minute) is recommended. If you only want to replace depleted levels of co2 and are growing in a closet using fluorescents, one room change per five minutes (divide room size by 5) will be adequate.

So depending on the size of the room you will need a fan to actually REMOVE the air....not just let it naturally vent

    Lighting
HID - Metal Halid (Veg stage)/ High Pressure Sodium(flowering stage)
    and/or
CFL - Compact Flourescent (Cheaper but nowhere near as efficient)

    Grow Room/Tent
You can search "Amazon.com" for grow tents.
Depending on your needs you can get a small tent 2x2', but if you ever plan on growing more plants i would suggest going with a 4'x4' tent just so you have the space. Also a 600w MH/HPS kit would be more than efficient in there

If you plan on growing in a closet always line the walls with mylar and ventilation is necessary

YOUR BEST BET IS TO LOOK AT SOME OF THE GROW JOURNALS ON THESE FORUMS AND PICK UP TIPS AS YOU GO ALONG

  11. If you're at all able to stay away from Miracle Grow, or Scotts products try to! Both MG and Scotts are owned and distributed by a company called Monsanto. Here's a quote from Jerry111165, the local organic pro:

you can check out this forum if you want more info on Monsanto and other non-ethical chemical companies that sell products in our market.

    http://forum.grasscity.com/organic-growing/929840-gravity-monsanto-heads-up-sticky.html

I'm not sure if you really care or not but it's good information to have before you start spending money on soils. Every dollar you spend is a vote cast for that company's success. If we all choose to support ethical, sustainable, and quality companies, we can force the industry to push for better business practices.

Fox Farms products, as far as I know aren't bad products but they'll eventually need nutes to supplement the soil. If you have the time and interest you could start an organic soil for less than the cost of soil and nutes, and with organic you can reuse the soil (Some of the folks in the organic section have been using the same soil for years!).

In any case, whatever you choose to do, you'll end up with a beautiful plant that we all love. Care for your plants and your plants will eventually care for you!
