I'm changing my mind on dabs

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by WeedCat, Apr 4, 2019.

  1. I've enjoyed the occasional dabs with my son in the past but with reservations. In the back of my mind, I kept thinking, they feel good, but they really can't be all that great for you using solvents that are toxic.

He's been dabbing for about two years now, pretty much daily and I'm seeing him go from a strong skier/skateboarder to coughing like an old man, kind of weak and not robust like he used to cough.

He's been to the emergency once I'm sure it was to do with the insanely high thc percentage of the concentrate and he's puked at home a few more times. But really, what worries me more is what he is doing to his lungs in the long term.

I would love to discuss with you your thoughts on this. Please don't get defensive because I come at this discussion with an open heart and mind. I only am writing what I've witnessed and I would love to have someone shed some light on this method of consuming cannabis.

I will find any credible links to add to this post but honestly, there is not much out there in the way of studies yet. I will leave you with this interview with a breathing specialist who actually loves to consume cannabis.
Episode 36 - Breathing and Cannabis with guest Robert Litman . (the part that discusses dabbing is towards the end fyi)

  2. I think dabbing too much is only an issue if you are using poor quality hash oil or taking crazy hot dabs. If you are using a good rosin or something that doesn't use butane or some other chemical to extract it, it is actually a lot cleaner than smoking flower. It all depends on the starting material and how well it is made, but if you are regularly dabbing sub par hash oil that may still contain butane or other solvents I could see that doing some damage long term. Important to know where your hash oil is coming from.

  3. I'm kinda glad you can't get dabs where I live or my tolerance would be fucked lol, you can get them but it'd be expensive.. I could make my own dabs pretty cheap from hash if I wanted to though :confused_2::laughing:

  4. I'm trying to talk him instead in to bubble hash which is so nice and so clean.

  5. Why not just talk him into Rosin? About the cleanest you can get, strictly uses heat and pressure to extract and he can still dab it with no residue left behind. Also one of the more expensive types of concentrate, but you can even make it at home using nugs, parchment paper and a hair straightener

  6. Interesting. Hair straightener?

  7. Yep. He's not kidding a hair straightener.

  8. It's a losing game, in my opinion. The only way to do dabs is to limit the amount used per session, and take a break of a few days between. Don't understand why people are burning through a gram a day or smoking 10 grams of flower a day, and mystified why they have CHS or some weird mental issues.

  9. Yep, it is a cheap way to do it and you can only do very small amounts at a time but can work in a pinch. People who make a lot of rosin will generally purchase an actual heat press that can put some serious pressure and consistent heat and can press a lot at once so instead of ending up with a dab worth you end up with grams worth of oil

  10. Every so often I buy some OK hash for the purpose of squishing and the returns are phenomenal just using the wife's straighteners shhh don't tell her lol.. They only go as low as 150c so once they reach that temp n beap I turn them off for maybe a minute or two n squish away.. I don't dab to often cos I hate the cough after dabs lol brutal..

  12. My son has the same nice disposition as he always has. No mental issues but I would guess he dabs more than he needs to. Why is anyone's guess? Could be his girl friend is off to college in another state, could be the state of the earth, could be our fucked up news on the radio every day but what ever it is, if he thinks it's bad now, wait until those problems are compounded with the health problems that may catch up to him.

Anyway, I will send him the hair straightener press vid and this thread to see if he can relate to you guys/girls better than his own mom when it comes to drug advice.

    Thanks for your input!

  13. Is that the same things as a CO2 extraction? Learning here.

  14. So, you let it cool for a minute to keep the hash from degrading? Does it end up killing some of the terpenes with the heat squish method?

  15. Not at all tastes 100 times better than starting material no bull shit.. I wrap a piece up in tea bag loosely to stop it popping under pressure takes a few goes to get it right I wasted some trying but mastered it after a couple mistakes from to hot to popping there's a vid on YouTube called something like turning €5 hash into rosin so easy and a cheaper alternative to using flower if ya can get hash cheap..

  16. Nope, co2 uses co2 to extract the oil, where as the rosin is nothing but heat and pressure, cleanest concentrate you can make
