Illinois Medical Cannabis Bill

Discussion in 'Cannabis Legalization & Law Updates' started by CurtChronic, Jan 7, 2011.

  1. It has officially failed to pass the House here in Illinois. The bill is dead.

  2. :( *tear

  3. Turn that frown upside down! :)

"The House sponsor, Democratic State Rep. Lou Lang of Skokie, tells the (Springfield) State Journal-Register he plans to reintroduce it in the next legislative session."

  4. This bill is dead, and it will not pass in it's current form. Some aspects are far too vague and the Republican representatives will not pass it without it being a more restrictive bill.

And as passionate as Lou was about this bill, he was not familiar with it's wording at all. The floor debate that took place in November was upsetting. We had to pause numerous times while his assistant flipped through the bill to find answers to other reps questions.

A new bill will be drafted, this bill, with this wording is not going to be passed. I've heard it straight from the reps themselves that they will not pass a bill without more restriction. Furthermore, other reps state they support the legislation, but choose not to vote in favor of it (in fear that cannabis legislation is still too taboo). In fact, some of the representatives mentioned they know people who grow their own medical cannabis, and they support that. Yet they still won't vote for the bill.

Our representatives are spineless and gutless.

And it truly doesn't matter if he brings the bill up for a vote. We are still looking at over another year patients don't have access to their medicine. I've seen more and more patients move to other states the last couple of years.
