Ignorance is bliss

Discussion in 'Philosophy' started by tlilancalqui, Oct 27, 2010.

  1. It is not that ignorance is bliss, it is that in order to achieve wisdom (and true bliss) one must overcome adversity. The hardship is because in order to overcome adversity (fear) one must face it, and not give up half way.

Never fighting fear is always the best option. However, when fear fights you, you must not give ground, nor turn because in fear, one who runs away only lives in knowledge of the fear, however one who continues forward, never has anything to fear at all.

Eyedea & Abilities, the dive. But also Epicurus, the peace of mind and buddha nature thread, and the one about 'what if' the devil wrote the bible; which alludes to fear of wisdom, as the snake is the bringer of wisdom, one must fear wisdom. Which leads to the analogy of ignorance being bliss. As if one always turns away from the snake, then one can maintain normality, or the unenlightened garden of eden.

But if one is willing to see through the snake, and even 'kill the snake' then one no longer has anything to fear at all, as wisdom is no longer an evil snake, but the path to enlightenment, nirvana and bliss.

  6. It doesn't look like anyone so far here has agreed ignorance is bliss, for me that is one of my alltime fav sayings....cause i DO feel that way!

There are so so many things in my life, I wished to god I had never found out about, from family and friends to things in world history, all of it in the end has been major letdowns about people, in very major ways. Has lead to being depressed about things and people that had I never found out, my life would have been just fine, i mean it's usually bad things, lying, loyalties lost, or things that are deceitful or bad that I've found out and it's lead to nothing but being mad or sad, and left trying to get over it. There has never been a big thing I've found out about that ended up being positive and leading to something good happening, it's always been something bad.

Don't get me wrong, I know some people want to know all about the world and people in it, to be well informed or whatever, and i say go for what you want, to each his own. But in my world, i'm like alot of other people, that say...I could have lived without knowing that, could have slept better at nite, without knowing.

I like peace in my little corner of the world, and I hate worrying or being mad about situations and people that I can't change or control. To me somethings are just better left unsaid. JMO tho

  7. Hm... hm.. hm.

    Come on. Really.

    Would you rather not know?

  8. yeppers, if i could turn back time on things, there are times i would have told someone, nope, don't tell me i would rather not know....hell i still ask sometimes with my mom and a few friends, if it's bad do i have to know?

i mean think about it, it goes like this for me anyhow.....pretty much all the things I've been made aware of...well they were things that people were trying to keep quiet, ...secrets...lies and coverups.....cheating, i mean, sometimes it is better to say nothing to spare feelings

    again...JMHO

  10. Damn... that's depressing... what harsh truths have you been given? Must be real tough ones...

  11. the above quote basically states that ignorance IS bliss, but sometimes ignorance just isnt an option.
