So I just started growing about 5 days ago...had a healthy plant and all he was getting there...so i was inspired to take action and show my plant a better life. So its 3 in the morning I go to your local convient store and about 2 hours later, 3 sheets of renyolds wrap and some tape (IM ON A BUDGET GUYS) haha WALA! I have my Grow Chamber with a place for light, Fan to take Air in and Opposite Side air to flow out. Well I went to sleep around 5am confident and happy with my new invention and woke up TO MY PLANT LAYING ON ITS SIDE!!! I took her out immidiately, Put a toothpick in the dirt and tied her loosely to it for support. She seems to be currently doing okay but anyone know what this could be from? OVer heating or maybe just blwon over by the fan? I AM A NEW GROWER LOOKING FOR HELPFUL ADVICE AND KNOWLEDGE FROM THOSE EXPERIENCED. THANK YOU ALL
it could be several things, but we'd need more info to tell for sure. What kind of light are you using? how often are you watering? how big is the grow space? If you're a begginer, my guess is you've made the most common mistake and not given it enough light. Also if by reynolds wrap you mean aluminum foil then you should get rid of that. aluminum foil doesn't reflect as well as you'd think. It creates hot spots and a flat white surface actual reflects a whole lot more light.
Yea I would say definitely overheating, aluminum foil is the worst possible reflective material to use since it reflects light unevenly and creates a lot of hot spots. If your on a budget white paint would be a much better choice. Also if the fan is on a high setting this could also be bad for the plant. But they will just get stronger from the wind breaking them down so it could also be a good thing. Everything in moderation. What kind of lamp are you using?
Hey sexypenguin we were on the same wavelength when we answered 1 minute apart on the foil issue. You must have just blazed as well.
ha well i can scratch the renyolds wrap n all that...but i am just using a 65 watt plant light. before it was just the plant on my table in my room and the light...what can i do to make grow most efficient? I would like to use LST method.
Well if it is a plant light, how many lumens is it putting out and at what temperature(Kelvin rating). I am a new grower, but my grow is going quite well so far for me. I just put white computer paper on the walls in my box. I have a 15W T-5 CFL tube, but it puts out 1000Lumens at 6500Kelvin. Also, my original thought was that the fans were creating an air stream across the plant and knocked it over by constant force.
Well Im thinking of making a new grow box and going to get 2 27 watt CFL lights. any ideas on materials to use for new grow box?
Aluminum foil isnt as bad as everyone makes it out to be... I've heard it works rather well if you use the more dull side. but take whatever info you want I suppose. I would say its probably from your fan though...
Skip the foil, and use some mylar if your on a budget. You can get mylar wrapping paper at any dollar store. Turn off your fans till its at least 4 -5 inches. Also get your lighting issue figured out. For vegging, you want a daylight bulb 6500k. CFL or florescent tube. Get those issues worked out and the rest is easy.
well now the plants literally like knocked over just chillin. I thought its possible I over-watered it...? I did a transplant and now its under light and im praying shell pick hertself back up
so you said you wanted to stay cheap. we kinda need to know what dimensions you want. i have been thinking about making a new one to put in the basement and ill tell you what ive been tossing around. for a 4x4x6 ft box i was thinking of using luan, 2x4 boards, great stuff insulation in a can. that is the stuff to build it. and it goes like this usually luan comes in 4'x8' sheets so you will need about 4 sheets if you use the ends of the 6' sections for top and bottom. you can get 2x4's in many lengths so just do the math and get what you need. assembly: build the walls on the ground to make it easy and i would use screws about 3" long. once you have three of the walls up, you can make a door by putting hinges on one side and leaving the last wall as your door. then once you got all that seal the cracks with the great stuff foam insulation. it really expands so you can be a little conservative with it. then i was going to use 4" dryer vent with a ventilation fan to suck air in and blow across my light then to a "Y" connector where i have another fan sucking it out. the other part of the Y stays open to suck hot air out of the box. then i have a fan blowing air in the box. sounds a little complicated but just post something back if you need any more instructions. good luck sorry its long
sounds legit...if you soon get pics or start settin this up, i would like to see what youre worin with. products, steps, whatever you can do. thx
