i dont wanna talk about how or if the world will end all i want to know is if it does end what will become of the internet? the internet is forever so would survivers be able to connect to it in certain areas or when i click my icon will it say internet explorer can not display page Also what will happen to all of our knowledge such as space travel, medicines, auto mobiles, electric motors, etc. The library used to hold all of the known info in the world back in the days of the romans and greeks and large amounts of info were lost when the librarys burned down. Will the internet prevent that from happening?
the internet is not forever lol technology requires people.... and data will only survive as long as the equipment holding it survives....
Lol what makes you think the internet is "forever?" The internet is just a huge network of servers, but servers have to be maintained and they need power (which will be hard to come by if no one is alive to run anything) and they need to exist.
When i say the end of the world i dont mean that everyone is dead just most people are and the goverments of the world no longer exist or are fading out quickly. so as long as people are around the internet will not be gone just scarse and info more likely to survive on hard drives than in books. books burn to easy and fire spreads and where there is one book there are often more. books also get dry rotted and wet rotted Everyone with a computer has a hard drive and those dont burn easy and spread fires like books do. and they last alot longer than papper
my idea of the internet is forever is being misunderstood i mean if you post something you can never get rid of it and it can be found even if it takes some intense searching
they have books from centuries ago lol hard drives store data in a housing with moving parts and shit... so much room for failure, on top of the fact the disk the data sits on will actually degrade over the years and lose any usefulness it had Solid state drives hold more potential to last longer.. but its still a mix match of different materials, none of which are known to exist without degrading forever....
arnt those book from centuries ago like stored in an airtight room or something. So i guesss the only good way to store info for long peroids of times would be like in clay or something
ehhh it was a neat thought though. The eygyptians have the right idea carve that shit in rocks and i should hold up for quite a bit. Sumerians too put that shit on clay tablets and it will last and last.
Do you think Aliens are going to tap into our hard drives or something....? if so, all they're going to find is Bioshock 2, and porn. Great lasting legacy, human race. GG
To my understanding, when you post something on the Internet it gets archived. So if you think about it, all that archived information will not be able to be found because there will be no Internet. The Internet is not something that is forever because it requires resources such as power and people to run it. If the Internet went down then the only way to find the information would be to get it up and running again.
In the grand scheme of things, most of our technological data is very delicate and short-lived when kept in one place for too long. It needs frequent transferring and backing up.. hard drives fail, sectors go bad and become corrupted. And even when the systems function, if they aren't receiving power they won't do anyone much good, in which case their data may become permanently lost when it's not backed up before damage occur. Computer data and files are considered 'soft copies', while tangible or printed data and files are considered 'hard' where they don't rely on a device to be legible or useful, they tend to last longer, and require a little more force to degrade (although the definitions of soft and hard are often disputed and bent). It's a lot more finicky than a good carving (even Superman opts for engraving in steel and titanium rather than choosing computers, when creating journals and documentation meant for the long-haul ).
Well...there won't be any girl scouts to collect up and sell the browser cookies. And the ARP caches will all overflow and flood the datacenters. Think of it like dunking cookies in milk....except there's electricity running through the glass holding the milk.
