Personally, I think it would just expand our view of God, atleast mine anyway. That or people will think they're Demons and flip shit saying that the final battle between heaven and hell has finally begun.
Personally, I think it would just expand our view of God, atleast mine anyway. That or people will think they're Demons and flip shit saying that the final battle between heaven and hell has finally begun.
I was thinking about this, and I don't want to jump the gun on anyone or put a blanket generalization. But I figure for the most part those who are religious the experience of it would act as a catalyst (for good or bad) And on the other hand those who are skeptical of religion would have the same effect of it enhancing their beliefs of there not being a god. But I'd like to hear other thoughts or even reasoning as to why it would effect someone's belief system.
I don't believe in a "god" now, so it wouldn't change anything.
But what I mean to ask is, would it just be further proof for you that there isn't one? For me at least I'd think I'd opt for if aliens came to earth it would be more of a proof that there wasn't a sentient being that created this whatever it is that we are doing. The act of another more scientifically advanced civilization coming here would be like a slap in the face of those who think that their own fate and destiny isn't in their own hands. I think it might have some severe implications, but as the first comment was that it would have a reverse effect on his beliefs then I'm not sure. I'm looking for people's opinions as to why and how it would leave them still not believing in a type of god or if it would make them believe more in god, or even make a religious person give up their faith. My mistake he said expand his view not boost his faith.
Because it is just like finding a new species on this planet, we do it all the time. And "aliens" would be no surprise to me at all, due to the vastness of the universe, I definitely believe there is life out there. That does not mean I think they are intelligent, the life could be small bacteria, which would still be extraterrestrial in theory. A creator would not have to be included in this in any way.

(if they were intelligent and capable to communicate with us upon contact, for brevity we'll say they are full fledged walking talking thinking beings from a galaxy far far away)
Depends on what they have to say, if they can prove they started the universe or they know exactly how it happened, then yes.

Then I don't care honestly, it makes it much more beautiful. I still wouldn't believe in a god, and people still would.

Nah, but in all seriousness if there is a God, I don't think it's anyone's place to limit His/Her/Its power within the scope of things we know/understand. If there are martians and motherfuckers just decided to rain down and chill out here then that's fuckin awesome. But that doesn't really negate/prove the existence of a higher power. The beauty is in that itself, God, let's say it's a He for clarity, can do all that shit and not be limited to just makin old ladies who give ten grand a year to their church happy. Motherfucker can do anything/everything including making martians rain down. Or, we could all be fish fuckin swimming in primordial goo. Who knows?

I'm going to have to think about this now. Very good point.
I am going to say that if the "beings" could show us how the universe started, then there would be no need to believe in a god. And if they couldn't, I still wouldn't believe.
I'm pretty sure the rapture is going to be Exactly like it is in American Dad. Nothing left but politicians, priests, and people who were boning during the rapture.
