Hello, I know the rule, 100w+ per plant. If growing 4 at once, would one 400w hps get the job done? Also, how much yield is possible per plant? Isn't 3oz per plant max? Any input appreciated, Thanks
4 is the max unless it's a SOG grow 3 oz is definitely not the max but is not the norm either. First time growing? be happy with 1/2-1 ounce per plant, that number will rise as you learn
Hmmmmm, thanks for your help. Im building my knowledge for when I start medical. What is the normal amount for a 400w hps? I heard 1oz is normal for 100w+ worth of cfls.
You're on track. 400w HID for 4 plants is a solid plan. The rule of watts has been bastardized a bit over the last few years with the emergence of CFLs -- 100w per plant of HID is good, 100w per plant of CFL is minimum threshold. You certainly can get to the point of reaping 3-4 oz per plant, and you may not do too badly on your first attempt. While it's true that many beginners would count themselves lucky getting an ounce per plant, it's also true that many beginners do their first grow in smaller pots, marginally adequate lighting, poor soil, cheap chemical nutes, unknown pH, poor ventilation, no LST/scrog/topping/etc -- you get the idea. But if you start off with big pots (5 gal), good soil mix, good nutes, keep pH in line, good ventilation and temps, and use LST, you could get 2 oz per plant your first time out.
Great information to you and the other poster! Do you have any input on the UFO LED systems? Whats the watts per plant for those, and I hear they are better due to almost no heat, low power usage...Thanks
So what would be the most useful, lowest price, and lowest amount of heat givin off? Should I get some 4ft fluro's? So for 4 plants, I would need 800w worth of fluro's?
There is no light that is the most useful, the lowest price, and the lowest heat. Those trade off against each other. Best to stick to what is the best light for the plant and then deal with the other issues to make them go away -- get an air-cooled hood to manage heat, for example.
Actually if u wanna be technical ots based more on square footage then it is per plant as I said hids are 50 watts per sq foot and the closest u wanna get ur plants to each other unless doing a sog is roughly one sq ft per plant it all plays together And they r right don't get sucked into leds there not worth it
Thanks for clearing that up about the led's, iv never liked the idea of them, but right before posting this original post I read about how they give off very little heat, which interested me. So we talked about yield a little bit with the cfl's, if I did 4 plants under a 400w hps, how much would I be getting? Im talking a legit grow, good temp, ph, nutes...??
Lol I know u don't wanna hear it and ur tired of hearing it but it all depends on temp rh size of plants type of medium feeding schedules I mean anywhere up to 3 or 4 zips is not uncommon but don't be expecting that ur first grow man its gonna take time and patience and its gonna take mistakes being made so u can learn and take the precautionary measures next time expect an oz per plant which should be pretty easy anything more is an added bonus bro happy growing man
