Identifying INDICA OR SATIVA BY ITS EFFECTS

I can usually tell within the first 2-3 minutes of smoking it.

 

Yeah pretty much, a true indica vs a true sativa is totally different, anyone can tell the difference side by side.

i think most ppl are full of shit. I compare it to the wine "experts" who can't tell the difference between a $1000 bottle of vintage wine from a $10 box wine from ralphs.

 

Most people are only full of shit when they can tell the difference between beaster and high grade. The difference between sativa and indica is quite prevalant. A strong sativa will make you trip out visually like an unmentionable, as where indica will just make you kick back and not give a fuck until you fall asleep.

 

I'm with Old School Smoker on this one. Telling the difference between one sativa and another just on taste might be pretty iffy but the difference between indica and sativa should be pretty clear. One is more clear and in the head while the other is more couch lock and better for pain but not as clear. Lots of crosses out there too though which helps to confuse the issue.

 

On looks there are tendencies but I wouldn't say that it's certain in most cases. Indica tends more toward smaller tighter buds while sativas are known to grow to great heights with huge colas, but I wouldn't pretend to know for certain based just on what it looks like in a bag. What's in the pic I couldn't say for sure. My guess by the length might be that it might lean sativa but like I said before there's crosses as well as pure strains and, it's a brick. Maybe someone else has a better guess but I can't say much more based on the pic.
 
You're right on the high/stoned thing, it's a good way to remember the difference. I wouldn't worry about what it looks like so much as how it smokes, that's what you buy it for in the end.

 

With pure sativas and indicas, the difference is pretty obvious. Hybrids are difficult though.
I try to only smoke pure sativas because I like the cerebral, trippy kind of high, not the couch-lock body high. After about 10-15 minutes once you really start to feel it, you can tell.

 

Most sativas grow fluffy, as where indicas grow solid. If you hold a bud up to the light, and light passes through it, then it's probably sativa. If no light passes through, it is most likely indica.

I can tell based on the effect. Certain weed has a certain taste once you come to know what you're smoking. Sour D, Lavender Kush, and Blue Cheese all taste distinct to me, for example, as do many others. Most people think purple = indica and orange = sativa which also isn't true. Has something to do with the amount of light it's grown in I believe.

 

Yes, it can be hard but once accustomed to the classic "sativa bud" and "indica bud" it is fairly easy to tell with the bud structure which is predominant in a strain 80/20indica, 70/30 sativa etc.
 
Classic sativa has long spear shaped buds, not usually "dense" but can be. Also has thinner stems usually, like this:

 
Indica has a short thick fat bud structure. like this:

Washing it? Never heard of it. What exactly do you do?  That sucks that you can only get that stuff, I feel for ya man. That's looks like the dirty Mexican shit I used to smoke in high school. Go to break open a bud and seeds just come pouring out.
