Ideal pot size for autos.

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by Chasefacegrowsbass, Jan 29, 2024.

  1. I'm currently working on my third grow. Indoors. I don't feel like typing all the specifics right now. I Keep a journal and will Post a link If anyone is interested.

Currently i'm running 3 autos and 1 photo in the same tent. 2 do-si-dos auto (rqs) 1 northern lights auto (rqs) and 1 love potion #9 (reefermans)

This is my first time growing autos. Soy and experimenting with pot size. I have the 2 do-si-dos in 2 gallon fabric pots. The northern lights auto in a five gallon. And the lone photo is in a 7 gallon. ( bc it will be the only one in the tent after the autos finish. At which point I'll flip to flower)

Anybody have experience experimenting with pot sizes on the autos?

  2. I use 10 liters(2.64gal) in summer and 15 liters(4gal) in winter for autos photos 10 liters to 19 liters(5gal.) on average,
I see 7 gal a waste unless you got the space and the light
these are grow bags, that drip water all over ...lol

    good luck

  3. What medium are you using?

  4. I just start in 5 gallon pots and leave them in there till harvest.

  5. Not about pot sizes, but it's still good info for you

    LIFECYCLE OF AN AUTO

ps: best luck I have with autos are in a 5 gallon BUBBLER.

  6. Autos don't need much medium until you start running out of light for all the buds.

  7. Soil. FF happy frog+ FF ocean forest 50/50, with a little extra coco, perlite, and manure compost

  8. Yeah, I didn't plan on transplanting at all with autos. Hence the experimenting with sizes

  9. If you have height for a 2 gallon bucket, I set my saucers on a 2 gallon bucket and a small nail hole on the edge and water then drips into a coffee can under the hole. Or with a hempy, just a can under the hole.

  10. Nice to hear from you again!! I am currently in a 3x3x5 1/2 tent. So I have the space for a single 7 gallon photo to flower once the autos are out. I fimmed it around the 6th node, now using Lst clips. Starting to look like a nicely tamed plant. As far as the dripping water, I've been trying to pull them out and use a catch pan when watering and feeding. Any other suggestions for maintaining fabric pots inside the grow tent?

  11. My apologies if I'm not replying directly back to each person who responds. I'm hitting reply but it doesn't appear to be directed at anyone. Just the thread in general.

  12. I know I'm probably dense for this, but can you explain that a little differently. Currently, I am removing my plants from the tent to feed and water. Doing so overtop of a five gallon bucket to catch most of the runoff. Then I put them back into the tent. Is this okay?

  13. What do you mean by this? I should have had adequate lighting to flower my tent start to finish. 300 watt full spectrum led( white) with two 35 watt led ( blurple ) for supplemental/ side lighting (if necessary)

  14. My tent is approx 3x3x5 ft

  15. Been there, it's all ok. Auto systems are just for people that don't want to do the work. So, if you had your plants sitting on saucers, and those saucers were raised up higher than a coffee can, you could just water them where they are and a drain hole in the saucer would drip into the can and all you would have to remove is the coffee can and empty it.
I did it all, but things started getting heavier, it's more personal than universal. I enjoyed lifting the plants out and looking at them under normal light. Easy to get to and clean up. But it got heavy. Just a tip for the guy who said they dripped all over. One of many solutions growers try to make things easier. Real growers just have a real drain tray for all their plants. Then there was the time I took one out and the whole plant tipped over, and it was a week from harvest and way too big for any thinking person to move. So I did most of my harvesting on that one with a broom.

What pot size do YOU want to use? What fits your grow best? Who wears the pants in your tent? ;) I am currently enjoying the 5 gal Loews bucket in bucket sip with a 5gal grow bag & my own compost blend, I like this size & flexibility to move/spin them, remove the top & change out the water in the bottom if needed etc. Roots from my previous autos were not root bound at all, room to spare? * use outside * a bunch of these buckets look redneck AF, just ask the Mrs. :confused_2:

You can crop good using auto-feed and drain just using 2 gallon pots. Just feed them 2-3 times a day, DTW.
lookit the roots from my last plant :D

  18. I do this once a week minimum as a check on condition and a shuffle under the lights too, I'm not really suited to grow bags I'm in Sweden with a very dry indoor and damp outdoor climate.
daily I'll just add a cup of water at best, again I'm a dry grower and am comfortable with less wet, I may soon return to plastic pots, as the yellow thread is coming loose thats China bags for you!

    cheers

  19. Is that like a wick bucket?

  20. I use 3 gallon containers for autos and either a 5g fabric pot or 7 gallon pot for photos.
