Hey, I've personally always been realy big into heavy/death metal and different forms of rock. I've listened to very minimal folk music, though. All I've heard really of is Jim Croce, Bob Dylan, and a few songs off the radio that I dont know the artists. This girl thats one of my new friends, listens to different kinds of music like this, and she had me listen to the song Wreck of the Edmund by Gordon Lightfoot. That song itself has done something to me, musically and I like it. I want to be able to play that kind of music, so can anyone give me some fok artists to look into? I dont know where to start.

One name John Prine. His very first album is awesome folk music, everything after is country which I detest (except for Cash).
Woody F'N Guthrie also Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, and the aforementioned Bob Dylan (he let's me call him Zimmy, though)
I highly recommend David Gray. He's a great folk/acoustic artist. He has some mainstream stuff you will occasionally hear on radio, but his collection is huge and most of it is great. In particular the album "A Century Ends". His vocals are great, the acoustic guitar work is complex and beautiful, and his songs are all, for the most part, pretty unique.
