If there are any professional artists in these boards that have worked with darker skin, I'd be much obliged for your feedback. So when I was a dumb youngin', I did the ice-salt+ice burn on my arm and it was the most excruciatingly wonderful pain I've felt in my entire life (I'm fking weird); I felt like I was floating for hours afterwards. Fast forward 7 years and I still have an oval scar 2.5" tall and 2" wide on my left bicep. I thought about getting it lasered or a skin graft but it seems kind of like a waste of money to have a slightly less prominent scar. A tattoo would be preferable but I'm not opposed to burning my arm one more time to turn this oval into a design. I want to get a tattoo on this arm, as a blank canvas, but the dumb scar has already taken residence. People always come up to see my "tattoo" and it's just weird and annoying to explain to them what it is, and the story behind it. Also, when I wear tshirts my scar peeks out from underneath the sleeve. I don't want to have to explain this for the rest of my life, whereas a design has potential to be a piece of art. Tips? Advice? Somebody told me to put triangles all around the edges to make it look like a sun but, ehhhh, I'm not so keen on that idea in particular. On the other hand, some people have said it looks "cool". I don't really know how much I can agree but yeah, thanks!
I bet a tattoo artist would love to take this kind of project on given that they have experience working with scars of sorts. That way you can sit down with them get to know each other a little and they can create a piece of art that has something to do with your interests and input.
in not sure how well your skin would show a tattoo but it looks light enough that if you were to get an all black design i think it could easily cover that spot up
Thanks, surfr, do you know how well tattoo guns work w/ scar tissue? I can still feel when my finger brushes over it(no nerve damage) so I know the scar isn't too tooo thick.
Didn't even see your reply last night Leesh Right now I'm in a tiny town whose tattooer (I don't consider him an artist) mostly does tramp stamps and basic text print. But for spring break I'll be back in LA. I guess next step would be to think of designs with an oval as the base shape so I don't wank into the consultation completely empty handed. Thanks blades!
Well eventually your going to have to find a tattoo artist that suits your fancy. I suggest using BME411 - Search - World-Wide Studio Directory to help your search for a shop that has reputable artists. It never hurts to send an e-mail to a tattoo artist a picture of your scar, if they want your business they should be able to give you some kinda of insight on what can be done. I mean a start is a start right? I don't think you have to limit yourself to oval designs just yet because depending on the detail of the work (and of course artist at hand) you get the scar can be completely unnoticeable.
You should get a symmetrical ice crystal/snowflake pattern/texture going through it. In black or grey. Or white ink would turn brown on you and give a really subtle, scar-like effect. I like the idea of doing it in black or white and having it way larger than the scar, wrapping your arm, scar at the centre. Hard to find tattoo artists willing to do white tho.
I don't know how I feel about a snowflake, no real significance for me, but I love the symmetrical aspect. I didn't even know they had grey ink, hmmm. But the white ink coming out looking like a scar is a sick idea as well.
No significance to you. Significant to the ice burn scar tho. Just don't say it's a snowflake an no one will know. This looks a bit contagious. I'm bored. http://www.its.caltech.edu/~ph76a/wallpaper/a1400by1050.jpg
This is fun. -So a better aligned version of what I already posted -White ink/scar type might look like a less bright version of this (white is a bitch.. you might have to go over it a few times.. get it redone every few years) -I don't know how one would achieve the third. It was sort of an accident I thought looked cool.
You should check out the stuff here. There's lots of symmetrical ones. Fuck Yeah Blackwork Tattoos Mandalas are pretty popular https://www.google.com/search?gbv=2...7&bih=714&sei=b8A6UfHzOYii8ATBsYG4Ag&tbm=isch
Lol at least it's better than.. Yeah the 3rd one looks best imo. Kinda looks like a big branding burn, nd I like that.
The tumblr page is sick. With darker skin, I dunno if the mandalas would show up in great detail though. I''m worried it'll come out looking like a huuuge black dot haha.
