IBS/Crohn's patients question

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by Izzy Mandelbaum, Nov 24, 2012.

  1. Do you also suffer from any form of halitosis? Have you found medical marijuana to help not only your IBS/Crohn's symptoms, but also the condition of your halitosis?

    I have.

  3. Thanks for the link, asthmatic.

I've been looking into one pathway cannabis may help. I've long heard that an elevated Tumor Necrosis Factor can contribute to intestinal problems. Here is a study about how symptoms of Crohn's can benefit from reducing TNF, using a prescription drug.

Here is a study saying unheated cannabis extracts inhibit TNF; while heated extracts induce TNF. So I think this may be one of the very noticable benefits I receive from cannabis and am now going to pursue testing unheated and fresh extracts specifically.

I also came across this recent study which says they found plasma level of actual THC and CBD higher for unheated vs heated. Plus the psychoactive part is diminished, so you can ingest more medicine.
"The metabolic pattern was significantly different after administration of the different forms [heated/unheated]: the heated extract showed a lower median THC plasma AUC (24 h) than the unheated extract of 2.84 vs. 6.59 pmol h/mL, respectively. ... On the other hand, the median sum of the metabolites (THC, 11-OH-THC, THC-COOH, CBN) plasma AUC (24 h) was higher for the heated than for the unheated extract. The median CBD plasma AUC (24 h) was almost 2-fold higher for the unheated than for the heated extract. These results indicate that use of unheated extracts may lead to a beneficial change in metabolic pattern and possibly better tolerability."

  4. Bought an herb medicine book the other day that would suggest it is possible to do a sun-tea version of direct oil extraction from fresh mature bud. BadKittySmiles instructs in one of her extraction recipes that multiple passes of the same oil over fresh bud makes a stronger oil & new fresh oil will pick up medicine left behind on plant mater from it's first oil washing.

I'm trying to work up the courage to see if I can find a liquid Algal DHA or EPA oil I could stand to use that way to wash some medicine. Had about 3.5 gm mixed EPA, DHA, Fish, Algae, as pills plus some additional ALA from hemp seed butter. I feel really good right now. Stuff I'm reading suggests I may not need THC for asthma around 4 gm/day.

  6. I have ulceritive colitis and it is severe. The Dr. has had me on prednisone for almost a year and I cannot take it anymore, it is not good for me and is not really doing its job, they have also offered paon meds but I cannot take that since I am a recovering opiate addict. My question is, which strain/type is best for gut issues? I hadn't smoked in over 8 years but just recently started again, very lightly (few puffs a day). I have been out of the loop for so long that I am unsure of what to look for when it comes to trying to deal with a specific issue. I am risking this with the possibility of a DT at work, although it has been 5 years and only have had the pre-employment one. I try to drink enough water every day to dilute just in case. I would have started a thread, but it says I do not have permission? If you can start this as a thread, feel free!

  10. I'm not going to plaster a ton of links up here, as several people took care of that already, what I can do is give you a couple first hand accounts.

I have severe IBS and I have a close friend with UC (he had his colon removed 13 months ago). I find great (amazing) relief with Medical Marijuana (I find both hard hitting sativas and indicas help me, as when I'm very very ill, I tend to get tons of anxiety and my body goes in to panic mode, making me have episodes of panic attacks).

My good friend with UC prefers indica dominant hybrids! With the help of medical marijuana he has been able to almost expel Dilaudid and Morphine from his life!!

    No experience with halitosis here.

I will tell you, once I received my medical marijuana recc., I was able to stop taking my Oxycodone & Xanax scripts (under my doctor's supervision) and I have never felt better!

P.S. - I've found Bikram Yoga really helps my IBS as well!!
