I once knew somebody who donated a large percentage of his income to charities. He would only donate money to charities that helped animals. In his view, people can help themselves, whereas animals can't. I'd have to say I agree with him.

Why do they need our money to build wells? Can't they do that themselves? Charities are mostly scams in the long run. If I was going to part with some money to better humanity I'd do that micro-lending program where you can give loans to people in the third world who are trying to start a business.
