My plant is bushy and i think it has to main colas, please dont laugh if im way off i just need help. i want to know where i would cut the plant and how to cut it so it will split into more colas. Also can i do this anytime or do i need to do it in the veg or flowering cycle or anything along thoses lines
you should use LST insted of cutting your plants to get more colas. by bending your plant insted of cutting it your not shocking it at all so theres no wait time to start growth again. check out vokal420's guide to lst: http://forum.grasscity.com/showthread.php?t=59538
Topping is a proven method just like LST and when used in combination with LST gives even better results. The guy wants to know where to cut, why not teach him??? Here is a picture. this is the very top of your plant, follow the main stem up to the last set of large fanleafs and cut at the red mark. The 2 green arrows is where your 2 new collas will form, forming a Y in your main stem. if you dont have the 2 small branches already coming out above the 2 fanleaves like in my picture dont worry about it, they will emerge and still form a Y. Also see my signature is a picture of a topped plant with Y in main stem as illustration. Hope to have helped.
Oh sorry to answer the rest of your question. Yes you can do this at anytime. During Veg or just before to a week into flowering. I personally top the plant immediately after the 3rd leaf set, from there it forms a Y and i tie down both ends of the Y to start my LST... sometimes i even Top the Y ends as well to have 4 massive main stems and LST from there.
This is a picture of the Y in the main stem. Look at the red arrow, just below it on the Y is a brown dot, this is where i cut the main stem when it was just a little itty bitty plant from seed, as it grows bigger you wount even see this anymore and look as if the plant actually grew the Y on its own.
