the son of god? what? I mean it's one thing to believe in god, but WHHAAAATTT???? I was raised athiest and am more agnostic than my parents, but whenever someone talks about the bible or gets some biblical tatoo I always wanna roll my eyes. I wanna laugh at them. I used to keep my mouth shut, but now......I just think it's stupid. *puts on flame retardant suit.*
and a lot of people feel the same way about how you think. There's just no answer to these questions... its just a matter of faith and beleif, or skepticism and non-beleif. I am somewhat in the middle. I'm not sure what I think about Jesus, other than he was a pretty awesome dude, regardless of his divinity. If someone wants to beleive he's the son of god, thats cool with me... Jews don't think he is, but they do beleive a messiah or son of god will come. I am of no faith but my own, and my religion is my philosophy and spirituality based on love and values i hold close to me. Is jesus the son of god? I don't think its my place to say - its something i'll never know. is there a god? another question i can't answer... but i think so... and if i think so, then its no more absurd then thinking there could be a physical, human-born, son of god. Its questions i'll never be able to answer... and for that, i am open to all beleifs and will never put anybody down for what they beleive. I too used to tell off people of all different faiths, but i've learned theres a certain ignorance in that, too
Its the world we live in. Its socially acceptable to criticize atheists, and call them godless cooks. Its blasphemy to criticize someone who believes there is a large man in the sky that judges everything we do. Shit, you can't even get elected to a public office in this country without bullshitting the public into thinking you're a Christian.
ya, you probably just said it better than me. I guess two things that have been agravating me about the people that do. 1.missionaries. actually I don't know much about what they do. they do something good like build something and then they try and convert some native group in the amazon? 2. I was talking to my friend who I think is too intelligent to think jesus is the son of god(sorry. I just think that way) I said to him "don't you just think that because your mom told you that's the way it is from an early age?" he says no, or something. I don't know why it was bothering me so much. I was having a conversation with him and I was telling him how I'm gonna start living my life to the fullest because I'm just gonna rot in the ground, and I guess it was annoying me that he wasn't thinking the same way I was. lol THREE THINGS! 3. people who have been raised christian and don't party just weird me out. lol
Spirituality is a personal experience and organized religion will fail to provide anything of real value.
yea. My big issue is organized religion. I don't get how people can be so blind. Take the Catholic Church for example. Lets say, hypothetically, that god exists, and Jesus is the son of god. Ok... good. Thats fine. Now people should follow jesus... but they end up, instead, following the catholic church, a sect that was established well after jesus. They are an organization... which means there is self interest, control, power, corruption and manipulation. It drives me nuts. People go into these churches, and then donate money! on top of it, they constantly change their views, and constantly reshape everything to try and fit the times. They were the first form of government. Control, control, control. They see power no differently than any world government. They skew traditions and manipulate minds for more power and control. Then they tell you how to live your life. I can honestly say that Jesus did not want christianity to turn into what it did. His core values and beleifs have been so skewed and changed by the many different sects of christianity. The only Christians I can really show respect towards are gnostics... they have found god from within, and not from the bible, or the church - both which came long after the teachings of Christ. Organized religion makes me angry... organized - organization... its right in the name. I dont need to go to church on sunday or at all, i dont need to pray, and i don't need to do what a group of non-divine beings thinks to be the truth - i'll find my own spirituality, thank you very much. If there is a heaven, or an afterlife, or anything, i know god isn't going to say - "you didn't go to church on sunday, you didn't repent for your sins, and you never donated to the catholic church... to HELL WITH YOU!" if theres a god, hes going to say "you were a genuine human soul. You found your own spirituality. When you did wrong, you righteously regretted it and learned from it. You strived to be the best you could, and you lived life to its fullest. Welcome to the great gig in the sky, my son."
I thought Jesus said we were all sons of god...or at least creatures of god... Jesus existed, thats irrefutable. I just think he was one of the greatest life philosophers of all time and the people of his generation saw his wisdom. His miracles I think were just stories of hope for the coming generations. I think the Catholic Church then took out all of his mortal characteristics in the Bible to make him seem like THE "Son of god." The Catholic Church has not always been such a "giving organization" like many people seem to think. They sold Writs of paper that told people they would go to Heaven if they bought one in the Middle Ages. I like to think of it like buying bonds in from a business except theres no guaranteed return and you are using people through faith. How can you blame the believers? I hold organized religion responsible for "religious extremists" Im no Christian, but theres no need for you to attack someone else over this. I bet the creator of this topic is the type of guy that told everyone Santa isn't real long before they were ready to handle the news...
The Bible is just one big-ass game of telephone. Someone sees Jesus on a sand bar fishing with John, and tells someone about it. The story gets passed on and exaggerated so much that it ends up being "Jesus walked on water!!! OMGWTF!" Jesus is simply the only guy in history to claim he was god, and a shitload of people believed him. If someone today claimed they were the son of God, they would be laughed at and thrown in the looney bin.
here's a very interesting essay written a while back about that very question: Did Jesus Christ Really Live? however, I'd like to consider the very real possibility that many documents within the immediate years following Jesus could have easily been destroyed, as christianity was not widely accepted at the time, and even moreso, condemned. I think its another question we will never be able to truly answer.
hes the son of god as much as you and me. he just knew it, and got some powers out of it using an atlantean ritual inside one of the pyramids at giza, during his MIA time in egypt. nfloyd..im totally with u man. i wish i had more of an intelligent response, not in the mood though, apologies mateys.
