I want to be a fighter....

  1. So, i've been thinking a lot recently about become a professional mma fighter. I know it sounds a little far fetched but i think that with good training i could definitely do it. I am 6 feet tall, about 160 pounds, pretty lean. But i think with good training it will be very hard but i could definitly do it.

Does anybody have any knowledge on this? Like how to join the ufc after training or what to expect? It is even worth it?

  2. Lol, why does everyon nowadays want to be an mma fighter? If I didn't get into a bad car accident 2 years ago, which halted all my training at the time I would have DEF being boxing professionally right now. I'm not being a dick but you sound ignorant to the subject.

You don't "join" the ufc after training. Do you know how many mma fighters there are? Okay when youfind out that ridiculous number, now tell me the UFC roster. its a TINY fraction...good luck, and it's not just about being good and winning, its about being marketable.

Forgive my demeanor, but I can't help but feel when people nowadays make claims of becoming an mma fighter, they are caught in the hype of the sport now and also, feel they couldn't make it in boxing. As far as money, thats in boxing. Sure, I like watching mma, but I don't see the same kind of people in mma as I do in boxing, and I have never seen wars in mma rival real wars in boxing. MMA no matter how popular will never have the same SPARK as boxing does, the drama behind the fights...I can debate this forever. Why not box?

  3. Eh if you start training now, it will be a good 2-3 years until you will become a good fighter. You will not be in the UFC after training, you'll become an amatuer fighter and if you've won fights with good wins like submissions, knockouts then a bigger promotion will find you. People you see in MMA organizations like Dream, WEC, UFC, Strikeforce, Bellator, etc etc. all had to do a lot to get where they are today. Pretty soon i'm going to start training and then start amatuer fighting. But I don't see myself in the UFC or any big MMA org anytime soon. If your serious then get your ass into a training camp and train every single day until you can master it. Don't think just because you train and it's been a year and you can beat up your friends that you will be able to do well in a Cage or Ring.

  4. lol alright thanks for the information

  5. this guy knows what he is talking about. its like any other sport, you dont just get "good" and go pro right away...theres so much more that goes into it. you can still do mma fighting though, just dont expect to join the ufc lol.

  6. People who do MMA don't choose to do it because they can't make it in boxing. There a lot of different martial arts, and boxing represents only one of them. On the other hand mixed martial arts is just that, anyone, who trains in any discipline can use that. I personally enjoy wrestling and you can't use any of that technique in boxing. That is why I do MMA, because my passion doesn't only involve punching people in the face (body as well).

  7. Everyone in the world wants to be an mma fighter since TUF came out lol. In all reality, its not easy, and not everyone can do it. Most of the successful fighters have been in martial arts at a VERY early age. You have to live and breath fighting to become successful. Not to mention how much your gonna end up spending on training, gym costs, equipment and all the little things. But if your content on it, get a good foundation in a striking martial art (kickboxing, mauy thai, boxing) and jujitsu, you need to get on a somewhat healthy diet, and cardio cardio cardio, extremely important asset for a fight. From there you can build and add more styles. Nowadays its not a one dimensional sport and you need to be as well rounded as you can. Also check out www.mma.tv they have a forum where you can get information, and a shit ton of great famous fighters post on there.

  8. lol most TUF fans want to be "UFC" fighters. and the UG is a crazy place haha

  9. As entertaining as it is to watch MMA fights, I can't imagine putting myself thru that kind of beating for fame/money. You're taking years off your life and putting yourself out there for a number of health problems. But hey, thats just me. 5'10'', 150 lbs. I broke my wrist playing football in h.s. and that was it with contact sports for me. (Soccer is much more my style)

But hey, if you think you're up for the challenge then by all means...!

  10. Also as for being in the actual UFC? You need to first be a professional fighter, i.e. build an amature career and then go pro. Amature fights dont count on your record, but use them as a learning experiance. The UFC, mostly Joe Silva, look for talent and pick people up they think will make for exciting fights. Theres no application or anything lol

  11. lol the OG is even crazier ;)

  12. haha yeah it is, i always go there for a good laugh and read the fucked up stories.

  13. ha did you catch that confession thread? That shit was amazing! I even threw a story up there lol

  14. You don't "become" a MMA fighter - it's something you grow in to!

    :)

  15. haha ya but only the first 2 pages, I died laughing when i read this "I pooped in the shower yesterday by accident and had to squish the poo down the drain with my foot."

  16. haha yeah it only got better

  17. haha ill read more tonight, probably laugh my ass off too.

  18. Its seems like people are doing it for all the wrong reasons.I have done karate most my childhood, kickboxing(which i find much more entertaining than boxing) for the past 7 years or so and many other sports all my life before the "im a tough guy mma fighter'' shit was goin about.I have fought a fair share of amateur fights and the money is decent(If you win) if you find a team and a good manager its becomes a job and a lifestyle, not a hobby.Sometimes 40+hours a week trainging. So be prepared for lots of hard work if you want to be a great fighter and its all about passion and love for the sport.

Oh and boxing has had its day, there will be no new big rising stars, its a dying sport and the fighters who want to further their game move onto mma.All respect to boxers and the sport and yeah the money is great but the guys making that money now are the only guys gonna be making that money, but its a new generation of fighting sports and mma is on top.

  19. Well fucking said!! :yay::bongin::bongin::bongin:
