19 January, 2019 - Day 71: #1 - Flowering Day 44 #2 - Flowering Day 20 I need some help folks, I noticed a problem a few days ago with my #1 plant. The problem has since spread and is starting to affect #2. The earliest signs from #2 are the yellowing of the veins and a darkening of the areas between the veins. The yellow veins and dark interveinal region is an interesting symptom. I have never seen it before. #1 also has the darkening between the veins, but it is really noticeable on the SUGAR leaves where there are trichomes. I can find no picture or description of anything like it on the world wide interwebs. I did a nute change yesterday morning. PPM = 1160, pH swings from 5.4 - 6.4. Root temp = 68F. Room Temp = 72F. Tent/Canopy Temp = 74F. I had a problem with my water supply last week so I used some tap water to top up. Could this be a chlorine/chloramine problem? I did use an airstone to aerate the chlorinated water for about 36 hours prior to using it. It had a PPM of 56 and a pH of 7.0 prior to 'building' it. I added cal-mag (2 mls/gal) to bring the ppm to 130. pH'd it to 5.6 and added about 4 gallons to the reservoir over 3 days. Have any of you ever experienced a problem with chlorinated/chloraminated tap water?
160 views and not one suggestion? Well, I guess you are all as stumped as I am. No worries. I think it is a phosphorus deficiency. My #1 is heavy into flowering and #2 is only 3 weeks in. Phosphorus demands are high right now. The symptoms fit a phosphorus deficiency better than any other possibility. My nute change will likely sort out any deficiencies. It just might take a few days to see the plant improve. That's the nice thing about hydro. Deficiencies can usually be sorted by a nute water change.
<Rant> Sorry...I've just got to say... This post got 160 views and not one of you bothered to offer a single suggestion. If I had asked something about Trump it would have been different. None of you even clicked on the poll. WTF is wrong? Polls are fun. Even if it is a guess, it is fun to see how others voted. Are you all just too stoned to bother? Don't know the answer? Not stoned but still don't give a shit? For the most part, I'm disappointed. I'm not terribly surprised, I suppose. My entire grow journal has only had a few responses. My questions on there go unanswered too. I get that you all want to learn from this site, but most of the learning comes from participating and asking questions. If you want to learn something, participate in the site. Don't be afraid to offer a suggestion. Don't be afraid to be wrong either. Trust me...there are a whole pile of idiots on this site who think they are experts. It is THEIR job to look stupid when they pretend to know what they are talking about. That's why we keep them around. That takes the strain off us regular pot farmers. You know, the vast majority of us who don't know everything about growing pot. </Rant>
Sorry, Jonathan. I didn't take a picture of the entire plant that day. I kinda just concentrated on the leaves. It is a good idea though to show how the entire plant presents instead of just the leaves. I'll remember that for next time. The problem seems to be solved now. I did a nute change two days ago and I have been careful to make sure there is plenty to eat and drink. This problem cropped up quickly and seemingly from nowhere. I am going to blame the tap water that I had used to top up the reservoir. Until that point, my plants had never experienced chloramine; I had been using only rainwater and occasionally well water from a 160' deep drilled well (Lots of calcium and magnesium carbonates and bicarbonates). Believe it or not, here in Nova Scotia, we are currently in the throes of a massive wind/rain storm. Middle of winter - end of January and we have rain and 10 degrees Celcius. Well, I have collected about 20 gallons of fresh, crystal clean rainwater in the last few hours. That should keep me going for a while. I also found out about a natural spring near where I live. Someone installed a pvc pipe somewhere in the spring and fresh, clean water just pours from the end of the pipe 24/7. Someone even built a shelf to rest your water jug on while it fills. I shall have to get a few 5 gallon jugs and try it out.
Thanks Sticky. I'm just a week or two from harvesting this plant. The last thing I need now is a deficiency to put a halt to her weight gain. Still, it seems that the problem is sorted. A nute change usually sorts that kind of thing out.
And now they will help me too. That's awesome. Thank you! So far, I have had a calcium deficiency and a phosphorus deficiency. I shall have to try some other nutes and see how well they work. The good thing about having a few issues is the experience it gives you, I guess.
Take like 2 oz of soil from ur plant and add 2 oz of distilled water in a glass stir for a min and than stick ur ppm and ph meter in. Do this when soil is fairly dry. This is Called a slurry. This will give u a true pH reading and will tell u if ur plants are eating. If u dont want to see this much again go to nectar for the gods. Calcium based nutes Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Thanks Papa Puff, I grow in hydro. I am very careful to ensure the pH swings from 5.4 - 6.4. It has never exceeded those values. Nectar for the gods, eh? I shall check that out. Thanks. I love when Towelie takes a hit and his eyes change to bloodshot.
