hi i am new to growing and wondered how many watts to use for lighting and would it work to use like a big plastic container with the lid off like 2 foot long 1 1/2 wide and 1 1/2 foot deep and fill the bottom with dirt. when u soak the seeds water during germanation u keep the ones that sink right??? during growing do u give the plants 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness??? if im missing anythingelse important i would really like the help.this will all be taking place in my closet P.S. i know u needs fans i just left that out thanks
your container will work fine....get some peat moss soil...no time realease! try to get 20-10-10 soil if possible. for the lighting a HPS light would work best..how many plants are you growing? typical wattage is 100 watts per plant if your using HPS or MH, 150 watts per plant if our using floresent. HPS is the best all around light, but also the most expensive(you have to buy the light and a special ballast for it) read the sticky "germination 420" thread to get the info on germainating. Once the plant has broken the soil, switch the light ON for 24/7 until they get to be about 4 inches tall. Then change the schedule to 18/6(18 hours of light/6 hours of dark) until the plant reach about 1/2 to 3/4 of your desired height. keep in mind to only water your plants about 2-3 times a week or less.to test whether you need to water or not, stick your finger about 1 inch into the soil, if it fells moist, dont water. anyways, then change the light scheldule to 12 on/12 off to trigger flowering. make sure at this stage that the 12 off hours are COMPLEAT DARKNESS, otherwise the plant will not flower and jsut continue to grow. after about 4-6 weeks into flowering, you should have some bud to harvest. For more detailed info such as pruning, harvesting, curing, etc, keep looking around on the forum, there are plenty of threads and grow guides. peace out PS soak the seeds you want to use in a container of water for about 24 hours, bump it, then germinate only the ones that sink.
i am growing at least 5. i can get bulbs that r made to give off certain light as the sun would or they mimic the suns rays. if this will work plz let me know.thanks again for all the help
Make sure the blubs are FLORESENT, COMPACT FLORESENT, HIGH PRESSURE SODIUM(HPS) OR METAL HALIDE(MH). do not buy anything other than those types of bulbs(ex. halogen, heat lamps, incandesent, etc) go to http://www.overgrow.com/growfaq/browse.php?topic=101 for more information.
a compact floresent is a floresent light but in the shape of a normal bulb right?? thanks for all the help
