I have a 48"x48"x78" grow tent in my attic(can't go anywhere else), that i have been monitoring for a few days before i germinate. I am growing Dutch Passion Think Different autos in soil. My issue is that it is cold in my attic as i live up north. I have enclosed an area with 4 mil around the tent(including above it) and my temp with 400 watt light on is 75 F, but it drops to 55 F when the light is out for the four hrs dark of 20/4. These are constant temps over three days. is 20 F too much of a swing for the plants to handle? Am i better off just going 24/0? I dont know if i am comfortable with putting a space heater in my tent, so that is out of the question. thanks.
From what I've read you want to keep your temp diff at 15 or less. I have the same issue in winter, 78 - 58 and I haven't noticed a negative effect on quality. Even if you decide to go 24 vs 18 now it will be back when you flip. Don't stress it.
I left the light on last night, and it dropped to 70 F in the tent, with just the top stack open, when it was 10 F outside, I guess I will just go 24/0 in the winter. one good thing is that my ballast is SO COOL in there(it's outside of the tent and visqueen).
that is what I was doing. had it ff from 11am-3pm. it has been colder than average the last few days, but it is supposed to warm up a little(relatively speaking).
