i've got a nice big hut. i have a res and a try. i have a 6 light t5 flourescent fixture. and a little fan. i also have a hot garage that the hut's in. i picked up 6 clones, and 4 have died in 4 days. they were sitting in mini rockwool cubes that i popped into bigger rockwool cubes. then put them into baskets. the rockwool didn't work too great. the bottom half stayed soaked, and the top half didn't get any water. so i took them out of the baskets to see if the rockwool would get more air and dry out. they didn't. my new clonies are probably gonna come in mini rockwool cubes too. can anyone give me a suggestion as to what my setup should be?? should i scrap the rockwool and go to dirt? im a newb, and thought i was good to go. this is what i had the first day. the light fixture is closer to the plants than it looks. now they look like...(actually this was yesterday. they are basically dead now)
some plants sleep at night, mine will be fine, then about 2 hours befor bed on a 18/6 cycle they droop and look dead, then they are lively in the morning. they are missing some seriouse neutrients, and it looks like they need nitrogen bad... good luck
also yes, scrap the rockwool, rockwool is best for cloning or cutting, and hydroponics. best results scrap and go with dirt, burry seeds about 2 times length of seed deep (pretty close to top). good luck
actually i only have access to clones from the dispensary. so they came in the really small rockwool cubes. maybe i should drop the next ones i get into pots filled with dirt. will a good soil privide them with the nitrogen they need? and i have some sensi grow parts a and b. but i don't know how often to use it.
If you are going to transplant the young plants in rockwool, just do so with the rockwool attached in. If you try to remove the rockwool, you may end up massing with the roots which is not the best thing. Just fill a one gal pot with decent soil (like FoxFarm Ocean Forest), the put the whole plant (with rockwool and all) into it. If your plant is healthy, you will notice clean white roots are coming out of the rockwool. That is how it should look. If the roots are not clear, looks like it is covered in slime, or even brownish color, you need to do some "cleaning" of the root.
