Honestly, I haven't done this myself, but I've known quite a few people who have said "there's been a death in the family and I'm going to go be with them during this difficult time." I mean it's kind of bad karma I think to say someone died, but it's worked so many times, cause I mean no one questions you. They just feel sympathetic toward you. "Go ahead, take your time, this must be really difficult for you right now." Like I said, I've never done this but hey, if you wanna jump in those waters...I'd say that's the only legit reason you'd be gone for so long. Being sick and stuff just sounds weak...
