In the long run it's not even up to the American people to decide if what we want is legal or not. We get to pick a couple of guys who may or may not be for legalizing cannabis, and the ones that are for it are too much of pussies to actually have a voice for their true opinion. Deep down, all we get to decide is if we want a war crazed republican, or a pussy who gives away all our money. WE DON'T GET TO VOTE! WE DON'T GET TO DECIDE WHAT OR WHAT NOT OUR COUNTRY DOES. They do! All we do is vote for 1 of 2 groups and hope they listen to the people. ....Which they have refused to do because of THEIR beliefs, not the American people's beliefs. /rant
I disagree with you 100%. It is up to the American people. We vote in our state representatives for local, state, and federal laws. Those people then make the choices they feel would be best for the people. As for the people who are too scared, I really don't think there are that many people too scared to voice their opinions. Sure, there are the drones, but I believe that only a small percentage are actually too scared to voice their beliefs. As for us deciding whether or not we get to decide what our country does or does not do, that is again a bad argument. Let me give you an example that just happened. A republican ran for senator and just won. What does this mean? The healthcare bill probably won't go through. If we voted for a democrat, the bill probably would had gone through. You see? The people vote for the representatives who will vote for what they believe is best, and will try to mirror what the people want. So to say we have no decisions is a statement that is completely false. Sure, we don't have direct democracy, but I also wouldn't want it either. The form of government we have now is gold because direct democracy is completely impractical. On certain issues, we do have direct democracy. One example would be the cannabis initiative in Cali. We also get to vote in our president. So please don't come on here bashing America's government because your arguments mean nothing. I also think we need to give the guys in Washington a break. Yes, I was very disappointed when not even the decriminalization bill passed, but put yourself in their shoes. Some did not vote on it simply because marijuana is against federal law. If they decided to essentially say "Screw off," to to federal government, look at who the enemy all of a sudden is. So to use that argument I think is valid, but at the same time, they should fight for what they think is truly right. If no one voting on the issue cares enough about the specific issue though, then chances are they won't go out of their way to fight for it. We need to elect officials who feel strong about the issue. Right now though, we have the generation in power who grew up with the thought that marijuana is nothing except pure evil. It will be a little while longer until the younger generation is in power. Even though the older generation is still in power though, look at how much improvement we have been making! People are way too crabby on these boards. If you look at the improvement we have made in 2009 alone, we have never been closer to legalization. Sure, we have our bad days such as the veto in Washington, but we also have our good days such as the medical legalization of cannabis in Jersey, decriminalization in places such as Colorado, Obama announcing he would no longer raid medical facilities, etc. While states have been decriminalizing on their own, it will inevitably become a federal issue. We already have some action taking place on a national level as well such as Senator Jim Webb who is sponsoring the bill to reexamine our criminal justice system. Hope you enjoyed the rant and the small education on politics. Please think twice before bashing our government. If our government is so bad, please go ahead and move to a communist nation where everyone is equal. Note: After writing this, I became way too lazy to go back and proofread. I just typed thoughts as they came to my head, so sorry if I'm kind of all over the place.
America is the way it is today because of the people, we let it get to this point and we have the power to change it. About only 25% of Americans vote
Well I don't know much about politics. But, am I correct when I say that we are given the choice to vote between two douches. And we must choose the least douchiest douche?
Hey I only voted Democrat, because it seems to me if I'm forced with the option of Democrat or Republican, the Democrat usually seems to be in the best interest of change.
This is one of the biggest problems in American politics. Who, exactly, told you that you had to vote for either Obama or McCain? Just because the DNC and GOP spend enough cash to lock every other candidate out of the MSM, doesn't mean that there weren't other names on the ballot. I myself vote Green Party, and Cynthia McKinney was right there on the ballot. Third party politics can have a chance, but only 37% of americans, on average, vote in the presidential elections. Which means that those people represent a core of dedicated voters who probably have a lot of party loyalty. Register to vote, get all of your friends to register, and vote for someone who isnt a corporate tool box. Simple stuff.
What I meant by two douches, was the two partys involved. Democrat and Republican. I haven't seen anyone in the recent poll who wasn't, at least somewhat, a corporate toolbox. Because thats how you get votes. My point is, even if there was a person on the ballot that wasn't a complete tool, they won't get enough media attention to have any chance at all.
According to some, you actually are voting between a douche and a turd sandwhich, not between two douches.
It doesn't matter who is in office, what group reigns. For you see ny friend the democrats and the republicans are one in the same. They are eachothers insurance policy. You see to keep the illusion that the american people do have a say in the gov't they give them the ability to vote. But we actually vote for the same guy. If we had McCain in office right now he would be doing the same thing as Obama. Politicians are nothing but broken promises they lie to get in, and when in are controlled by some unknown person(s). Its all put of the bigger picture. The Politicians we elect are nothing more than a face more a puppet.
