i know its not the time to grow outdoors but i have a question

i live in northern california and its going to be winter soon, my question is can a plant survive in the rain?or wont it just be like even if it can the rain would ruin it because washing all of the crystals off. im asking this because i cant grow indoors for various reasons and i already have a plant growing making me not wanting to kill it.
