I'm new to this only on my first grow and I stumbled across this organics section I'm pretty interested in learning more. I know you don't put bottled nutrients in soil. So is there any way soil might be to strong for a strain and kill it.
I heard soil gets better as it ages but do somewhere down the line you have to add more things into soil i.e. things you first put in to make soil
Yes..you add worm castings, compost teas, all sorts of things to keep your soil thriving. Liquid kelp and fish emulsion are really good organic nutes that are sold in bottles.
You mix your worm castings in with your soil at the beginning with a few other amendments, then you water with compost tea and other organic fertilizers every once in awhile as needed..check the organic soil for beginners thread. http://forum.grasscity.com/organic-growing/1116550-easy-organic-soil-mix-beginners.html
Now I did read that not to long ago. I understand u add all amendments in the beginning to make ur super soil do these amendments die out with in time or do they only get better as it ages.let's say ur going to do your second grow do you have to add more amendments or can you just use the soil as is
I seen a lot of people get help pretty quick in the organics section you guys are pretty nice and helpful
The plant uses some of the stuff in the soil so yes that's why you make compost teas and add other organic stuff. There's all kind of organic shit you can use..I just recommended this in another thread but if you can start vermicuposting, which is making your own worm castings, you will save yourself alot of money. Pretty much the entire growing section not just the organic one
Organics is the only way to grow as long as you can resist the urge to mess with your plants all the time. They basically grow themselves. You get a good mix and then it is very important to let it sit for 4-6 weeks before using it. This gives the microbes the time to process the amendments into usable forms of nutrients. The microbes will then partner with your roots and assist them in getting what they need when they need it. There are lots of really cool people in the organics section too!
It's funny cuz I don't smoke I used to but I just love the smell and how the plant looks. Keeps me calm doing this it's weird how a plant kinda acts like a human in a sense once I get the hang of this my girl can do her own nursing since she smokes lol
Uncomposted manures can be detrimental to your soil. Depending on your definition of 'too strong' that may fit into your description IMO. That's exactly it. There certainly are plenty of good people in the grow sections, the organic section has always been a bit more tight knit then the rest. Check this thread out on no till gardening. I've been reading this section for several years and this thread is a great learning tool. Edit: Just read your last post, and realized your username. I can relate. I smoke but can't decide if I enjoy growing or smoking more.
The amendments are used up over time. Most people top dress once or twice during a grow with EWC and kelp meal slurries to get some additional nutrients in. Plus watering with a little coconut water and aloe vera juice now and then to add some additional compounds that help with growth. I'm on the fourth run with my soil mix and have yet to see any nutrient deficiencies. Sent from somewhere over there. No, not there...over THERE.
I've seen some super soil recipes I wanted to try after my first grow. I just want to be all over my plant after a feeding making sure everything is ok and flushing this looks alot more simple as far as taking care of the plant
No flushing with organics. No checking PH or TDS. (Generally.) The mantra around here is LITFA. Leave It The Fuck Alone. A properly built living soil requires little maintenance. I visit my girls and turn and inspect them every day, but it only takes a few minutes. I water my SIP's a couple times a week. Make and give them a tea every few weeks when I think of it. Take them out and train/trim a few times in veg. Really pretty simple in the long term view of things.
I spend a lot more time with my babies than I have to, I could go a few days without peeking in and know they're fine...I just love the look and smell of them I can't help but look/turn/inspect.... Organics = KISS, LITFA, GG
