I feel like I'm never going to be able to get high again

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by JJmatix, May 12, 2011.

  1. Okay, its kind of a long complicated story, so i'll try to make it as understandable and accurate as possible. Read it all

I have been smoking cigarettes for the past two years on and off, with the most frequent ive ever smoked being a pack or two a month. My last ever cigarette was last weekend and now i have decided to quit.

Now with weed, I've been smoking for the past three years also on and off, DEFINITELY not regularly, only until the past two months where i turned 18 and decided to buy a grinder, papers, and smoked myself out instead of mooching off friends. The past few weeks is when ive smoked the most frequently, with a joint every night. (only a dub over the course of a week)

Now on April 15, i came down with a horrible cough and sinus infection/irritation it seemed, and have gotten over it, but have continuisly smoked (both cigs and weed) during my sickness. I got better a week and a half ago, but my cough stayed. it feels like i always have to cough, and my doctor says its "Post Sinus Nasal Drainage" and its just mucus in the back of my throat.
Now I have gotten over THAT, but now I have this new symptom. Basically I am now always coughing up mucus. I assume its because I smoked and have since quit, and my lungs are healing and so i am coughing up mucus. But im not use to coughing up mucus so i gag a lot and it feels as if im about to puke but i never do. This has been going on for a week until now. I feel PERFECTLY healthy, but I always have a slight urge to cough and when i do, i cant stop until i spit out a fat, green loogie.

Now it has come to my realization that if i never want to experience this again, i have to quit smoking cigs, which i am perfectly fine with, but i still want to smoke weed. However if this will bring back this mucus situation, fuck that. How the fuck do i continue to get high? Is this mucus being produced because of the SMOKE or because of the THC? I did some research it seems as if the smoke damaged my lungs and throat and they are healing...

and one other question, can I start vaping? Should that be my new method? or will vaping still damage my lungs/throat?

    Help!!! :(

  2. well idk if its kuz of the cigs or weed but try vaping!! no smoke whatsoever!!! plus you will get a better high and ur lungs and throat will greatly appreciate it

Well, this cough started on april 15th you say. That's still less than a month. So, assuming it was/is a bad cough like you say it is, that's a reasonable time. I see people that have never smoked get terrible coughs.

You haven't been smoking that long. And one to 2 packs of cigarettes per month could be considered recreational, not a habit. You've never really smoked bud regularly either. So, you probably have pretty healthy lungs still.

The cough is probably completely unrelated to smoking, but of course smoking doesn't help it. You also said "green loogy"... which suggests mucus. If it was black that would be tar from smoking too much (like me)... or red... which obviously wouldnt be good in large amounts heh.

If you are concerned about it, vaping is always better for you than smoking. They say it's virtually harmless to the airways. I really think you are okay as it is, though.

    You're young, don't worry :smoke:

PS: long night, and tired... bear with the jumping around rambling =P

  4. Yeah im pretty sure vaping will avoid the whole mucous thing.
I've never vaped but a seasoned vaper will be in this thread in about 2 minutes to confirm that im sure.

  5. I believe your doctor is correct, post nasal drip is the culprit for the cough.

I use allergy pills called chlorpheniramine maleate to control mine. Also known as chlortabs.

Cannabis is actually a great medicine in that it is a natural expectorant. Vape or edibles for those concerned with smoking, to each his or her own.

I still smoke a lot of MJ and honestly don't feel any ill effects from it.

Search Granny Storm Crow for way more info, here in at the city.

  6. Congrats on quitting cigarettes.

Well, edibles and/or vaping seems to be the best option for you. But I have to add, whenever I get a sore throat and still keep on smoking, I usually cough up shit for a while even when I get healthy again.

If I were in your position I would just take a small t break (week or two) and give it a try again. It might also just be that your throat is not used to the amount you recently started at, but I'm just guessing.

  7. Well how come all my friends say they've coughed up nasty mucus after smoking or after stopping smoking? What im doing is not the same regardless of the color of my mucus? I just came back from the toilet btw, i coughed some up, my mucus is actually CLEAR, and doesnt look gross at all

  8. Also one thing, if i dont cough deliberately, like kind of my impulse, i would all of a sudden start gagging and choking..and would have to run to the toilet, catch my breathe and deliberately cough to get the mucus out..fucking sucks..

  9. im having the same trouble, but mines was brought on my a gnarly ear infection i got.

now when i smoke, and start coughing rather hard, the cough stays the whole damn day, and i get to the point of coughing where i throw up sometimes, and when i do, it's always just Clear flem/spit that comes up.
im kinda getting worried because it's been this way for alittle over a month.

  10. Sounds like the beginning of walking pneumonia but I'm no doctor of any sorts.

  11. I had this over the winter! My head hurt when I moved, it gets better trust rest and sudofed(that's what it's called In the uk). Oh and weed! Peace

  12. I have never gotten a cough or coughed up mucus from smoking weed. I run regularly and i think thats what keeps my lungs in check. Even when i used to smoke everyday blunts too i never coughed up shit. Only time i ever coughed up mucus from smoking was when i smoked this really old harsh weed. I think that if you stay active weed wont do shit to your lungs. If you are that worried about it make hash so you have to smoke less. Make edibles. Get a vaporizer. Or buy/make a bong. Last option will probably be easiest. Vape will save more money though. And you can make edibles from the bud you vaped.

  13. Vaping is smooth, I would highly recommend it to anyone.
I started to vape just to try something new, not because of the health benefits. Now I'll never look back.

Try it, get a magic flight box or something similar, and if you don't like it (I'm sure you will!) you can always sell it to a friend :p

It's not Goin to make your lungs worse, but I wouldn't say that it will improve them, because anything other than air can't be that great.

  14. smoke like a man op

  15. I would say this would be smoking related because I get all the same symptoms, although I'm no doctor, but I smoke both weed and cigs everyday, I smoke tobacco too, and I got that cough, especially in the mornings. Also have that nasal drainage problem too. I think im used to it now which is why im doing nothing about it...lol
But smoking any dried plant will cause your lungs harm, there are other means and ways of getting stoned from weed, you just need another way to get THC into your bloodstream, you can cook with it although you'll need alot of weed for that lol, or buy a vapourizer, THC is relased from buds when heat is applied, it's not necessary to actually burn the bud and allow other unwanted smoke and fumes into your lungs, although burning it probably is the best way to be sure theres no THC left in the bud = no wastage. But them vapourizers get you just as stoned, some can put you in the whitey buzz depending on how much bud you use.
    Anyway hope this helps man
    Bud :smoke:

  16. I'll be honest man I'm still coughing up mucus from 2 weeks ago. I burn reguarly, sometimes even 2-3 times a night with tobacco flavoured sheesha. I bought the MFLB to save my lungs and my money. IMO I think you should consider a vape of some sort. Less chemicals to deal with, soft on the lungs etc. It's a good investment. Good luck man.

  17. dude just chill, after you get a chest cold like you did your body overproduces mucus, i started with a bad cough about two and a half weeks ago and still need to constantly clear my lungs of mucus, i get sick like this every year and it usually takes 3 or 4 weeks to be completely back to normal

your lungs are prolly as healthy as the day you were born, a couple years of recreational cig smoking is really nothing your lungs cant handle, and bud smoking does cause some people to cough up mucus, but if it is a result of bud smoking it will be slightly brownish

  18. I can speak from experience on this!!

What you're experiencing is excessive post nasal drip from your sinuses triggered by the irritants from smoking. I smoked cigarettes for almost 12 years before I quit and I suffered from chronic sinus infections and constant post nasal drip (coughing up mucus). Once I quit the infections reduced to a few times a year and were usually allergy triggered. I smoked weed during most of the 12 years I smoked cigs as well but the cigs caused most of the problems. Now here it is 6 years later and I've picked back up smoking weed, and I have yet to see any return of the excessive post nasal drip. So my guess is its your cigs that are causing the bulk of your problem, not the weed. HOWEVER, its also very possible that you may be allergic to weed smoke, it happens to me sometimes with certain strains. What will happen is your sinuses will swell shut and you'll start coughing up mucus not too long after a smoking session. If this ends up being the case, take some Claratin or Allegra on days you plan on smoking and it should take care of the allergy symptoms.

  19. yeah it's cuz of the cigs.. i got the same thing as we speak got sick on 4/20 in amsterdam and the cough with me spitting out pleghm is still there.. don't worry itll go away had it before

  20. Okay, thanks for the answers, ONE more question though

did you guys have it as bad as i did? because when i take a big cough, i start gagging and choking until a loogy comes out, like a cat spitting out a hair ball, very rough, but not painful at all, just fuckng annoying
