People talk down to me because i have my ged instead of a high school diploma. I dont get it. They act like i got my ged because im too stupid to finish high school... When in reality, i was smart enough to quit school 3 years early, cram 3 years of school into a few weeks of studying, learn all the knowledge required to pass high school, and take a test to prove such knowledge was indeed learned. Blades, how do you feel about the ged vs hs diploma debate(if there even is one)? And why do you think people would look down on those who have a ge instead of a high school diploma?
You have to think about what employers are gonna say when they see your resume. Some people could be successful without even getting their GED, but unless they are starting their own company its in the employers hands whether or not they hire you. Your not even going to get an interview if your up against people with college degrees, or in your case even a high school diploma looks better.
In our society, public schools are made for conformity, to conform to decent being that will fulfill the workforce. That is not a bad thing though, its most necessary actually. But if you can achieve the equivalent in less time then props to you. I went through normal schooling in four years and hated most of it. Perhaps I would have been better off trying to get my GED early as you did, but I decided not to. GED's are usually reserved to those who fail at the system and try again....but I think if you take it as your first try and then continue onward, it is to your advantage. In high school I had a lot of opportunities at college credits and scholarships that I did not take advantage of, I guess that could be the downfall of getting your GED, but time is money as they say, so be sure to make the most of it.

Ive gotten into education discussions and had people tell me my opinion doesnt matter because im a drop out. Fuck them employers though. Lol. Im a 19 year old with a ged, food prep safety certification, and microsoft office specialist certification. If that doesnt scream that im trying, i dunno what does. Lol.
Meh, I'm torn on the subject. I have my GED. I couldn't handle school due to what I now understand was because of anxiety - which I still have to this day. I couldn't take it so I quit. But I love knowledge and learning how things tick. I'm 31, and I remember before the internet went mainstream - when there was no Wikipedia, Smartphones, WWW was in its infancy (mid 90-'s), etc. We had to use books if we wanted to learn something, which I admit, was a pain in the ass. But then the net hit, and in current times, there is so much knowledge that can be acquired at the snap of a finger. I love it! But I digress... I never get talked down to about it. But fuck what people think. If you think they're talking down to you, learn some shit and make them feel stupid!
Does it make you stupid if you dropped out of high school a few years ago and you still don't even have a GED? I'm trying and I've passed everything EXCEPT math. Math is just so hard for me. I get so frustrated because it feels like I'm the only one with this problem. I mean everybody else understand math so much easier than I do. It just makes me feel dumb. And what the fucks the point in getting my GED if people are gonna talk shit anyways? Why even bother, for real?
Never even heard anyone insinuate that someone is stupid for having a GED and not a high school diploma. Im sure there are plenty of people with that belief though. I think the only way it holds someone back, is because they don't get to have a real GPA, so no college gives a fuck about you. And a very small amount of employers prefer high school graduates over people with a GED, honestly though, I think for most jobs it really doesn't make a damn difference. For jobs/careers that don't require you to have serious knowledge of the subject, (EG. A veterinarian). I think a small amount of college education, and impressing employers with linguistic skills and persuasion is what really lands you a good job.

I know that prolly seems like a piss poor outlook, but i guess im just still too young to care about the future. I guess i just dont want to work too hard towards anything, since the future isnt predictable. I can go to college, become a doctor, a lawyer, an engineer, anything really. I could even slave away at some corporation for the next 20 years, and work my way up to vice president of the company. But then one little pebble in the pathway, one bad buisness deal, and everything could fall apart, and then i would have worked for 20 years with nothing to show for it.
Im not calling you stupid, but your taking the attitude of a failure. Your throwing away a chance of success without even trying. How many people today have to work their ass off just to keep their average job?
I also have my ged and hate this as well. I dropped out because I'm completely against the current education system pre-collage.Too much time teaching too much bullshit. And all most teachers do is get you to memorize things. All the important information people learn in for years. I learned in a few months. I wish there was no such thing as schoolwork outside of school(Six hours is more than enough. And by the time you are a senior you probably have a job as well). Four years of learning to memorize. I can hardly remember anything in hs anyway(and it was only a few years ago) let along what everything means. I'd much rather learn 1 years worth of the information over the course of four years. But actually learn the meaning behind it and what not. Not just Oh so and so did this on this date etc. And of course the employer thing is utterly pathetic. But I knew it before I dropped out. I already have visible tattoos and stretched ears(and use to have long hair), so I've been dealing with the whole oh you cant work here because you aren't "normal" ever since my first job. Though 1. I dont try and get jobs that deal with the customers directly because I prefer to work more by my self. And 2. Customers not liking how I look should not be an issue. How come I have to be waited on acne ridden BO smelling fatass cunt? Oh yeah, that's the norm in America. Fuck people. Stick to your guns.
School got too busy for my GED while I was working at a Digital Marketing firm, I work as a graphic designer and web developer and making great money.
You can "fight the system" as long as want, but its not going to change. Unless you take what life throws at you, your gonna be selling insurance the rest of your life. If your cool with that, then go with what makes you happy, but i want to achieve something.
