I can't keep my bong clean!

Discussion in 'Bongs, Dab Rigs & Bubblers' started by TheMissile, Aug 31, 2012.

  1. I recently bought my first bong for my birthday. It's a nice 18in tall "Sour" bong with a dome percolator and ice catcher. $180. I read the Grasscity guide to keeping my bong clean, but it's really difficult for me. I fill the bong with water and shake it around, and then empty it out, but that doesn't do much to make it look nicer. I use paper towel and Q-tips to dry and clean the bong and downstem, but I have no idea how to clean the percolator, which looks dirty at the top of the dome.

    I guess to sum up:
How do I clean the inside of the beaker bottom of the bong because Q-tips aren't long enough to get everywhere in there?
How do I clean my dome percolator, and the inside of it?
Is it safe/useful to use dish soap as long as I rinse it well?

    Happy toking! :bongin:

  2. Isopropyl alcohol(AKA rubbing alcohol) + Salt(rock salt or sea salt) ; then you shake the hell out of it until it's clean.

  3. I've found just regular table salt works the best. And when he says "shake the hell out of it" grab that thing and shake it like a big black girl shakes her ass. And if it still doesn't come fully clean let it soak for a few hours.

  4. i use laundry powder and boiling water and let it soak for 10+ minutes, shake that shit around soak it again for 10+ minutes then rinse the absolute hell out of it. Works like an absolute charm and any left over resin spots (if there are they are tiny dots and hardly more than 3 of them) i dip a q tip in methylated spirits and just wipe it off, then rinse it again.

  5. I would never use boiling water, ever. Putting 100 Degree F water in glassware is just asking for shattering. Also, putting your water in a pot of water on the stove and boiling it also does nothing. Boiling water is never necessary. I just turn my sink all the way to hit, fill up my bong with hot water, let it get the glass nice and warm, empty it, then use rubbing alcohol and table salt (lots and lots and lots of table salt). And yes, shake like hell. As soon as the alcohol turn really murky brown, rinse and add more alcohol and possibly salt.

P.S. If you get a carbon filter adapter for $25 it filters out 100% of the tar and works as a nice ash catcher as well. Keeps bongs cleaner for a while longer and there is never tar buildup inside my bong. Check them out. I like McFinn's.

  6. everybody uses 91% rubbing alcohol and salt. it will get your piece clean no doubt about it.

  7. when did i say i did that? i fill it with boiling/really hot water and let it soak in the sink

  8. ^^^^ This is the most sure fire way to clean your bong. I have noticed if your an every day smoker, even multiple times a day, you will find yourself having to clean the bong almost weekly. After ive had a few sessions with my bong i will run hot water through it (The water from our tap gets very hot) and that gets most the gunk off, then about once a week or maybe once every other week i give it a good iso and salt wash.

  9. K- OP.... first lesson - NEVER take bong cleaning advice from ANYONE that uses only hot water- or LAUNDRY DETERGENT or anything else.

The only answer that is correct- is ISO and an abrasive. (or an expensive bong cleaning solution which is just alcohol and other scents/cleaning agents.)

"when did i say i did that? i fill it with boiling/really hot water and let it soak in the sink"

    >meaningless... the point being- those 'res spots' that you have to clean out with a q tip is CHEMISTRY`S way of telling you you are doing it wrong. Hot water will not do the job.

And laundry detergent?.... ummm i was going to make fun of the OP or thinking dish soap . . . but MAN-

Can you link the thread that tells you to use WATER to clean your bong? That is the dumbest thing i have ever heard.

91-99% iso alcohol and salt is the best method. Whoever said to use water is an idiot.

  11. Do bong beads(defusers) work?? I seen them for sell on gc

  12. Lol I use the hottest water from my sink and that gets most of the chunks and specks but it wont get the rest that just kinda looks like grime above the water line. That's where iso an salt come in.

I've noticed that if you get your bong nice and warm from the water the heat will help the iso get the rest of the resin.

  13. Buy a carbon filter

  14. Buy an ash catcher

  15. Dude - rubbing alcohol and salt. Shake. Cleans everything. That's how I used to clean this big ass bong I had. I'm no expert, but it worked, mang.

  16. Have you READ this(/99% off every other bong cleaning help threads)??

You ARE an expert by comparison.

  17. Awesome! I only used 50% Iso-alcohol and table salt and it worked like a charm! Thanks blades; now my bong looks brand fuckin new haha! :bongin:

  18. lol enjoy your bud cleanly now

  19. Abstinence is the only way my friend.

  20. I'd defently invest in a carbon filter they work amazingly I have one on my bong and I once smoked 5+ grams through it and I never even needed to change the water
