I cant get one started...what am i doing wrong?

  1. I had 10 agent orange feminized seeds. I put 5 in buckets outdoors and they all sprouted , but were attacked by pest.
I then decided to grow 1 at a time indoors using a bubble bucket.

First one only germinated, but never sprouted. ( i may have killed it by directly applying nutrients to it.)
Now this one i germinated in a glass of water for 48hrs then planted in a rockwool cube that had soaked in 6.0 water . It sprouted, so i put it under a basic plant light from walmart. I kept soaking the rockwool in water everytime it started to dry.......Maybe it got too much water ?

Now its just stunted and wont open to its first 2 leaves and its been 2 days under light and fans. No nutrients were given yet.

  2. Get a better light man, also barney's grow bible is suggested.

  3. Can anyone that is using bubble buckets tell me how they start there plants step by step? And when to start nutrients. And how often do you add nutrients to the water.

  4. I have a 400 watt hps in a cool tube but figured it was too strong for a little sprout. I planned on moving it under 400 watts when it reached week 2

  5. 400 watt should be fine man you have to think that those little guys are exposed to natural sunlight and they do just fine.

I always had the best like germinating in a most paper towel and giving it a bit of natural sunlight via window.

  6. Start our seed in the dark between two paper towels.

It needs to be warm (80-90deg) but NOT hot. I use a plate, put paper towels on it soak them in water, place your seed on them, another paper towel, plastic wrap (to keep in moisture) the aluminum foil (to keep out light) then place it 8" under a florescent light (for warm). Remove it in a week when it has sprouted.

Soak your rockwool cube in PH balanced water (I like to add a drop of superthrive as well).

Place your sprout in the rockwool under a dome (a clear plastic cup will work). Place it under a blue florescent light for 2 weeks.

Slowly harden it off (get used to life outside the dome or cup) by removing it for 15 minutes a couple times a day, increase frequency and duration until it's full time out from under the cup.

Now you have a happy baby. :D

  7. Forgot to say - do not water your rockwool for at least 7 days with a sprout under a dome.

  8. Awesome....thankyou sir.

Should i have water in the bucket under the rockwool during those 7 days while its in a dome or just have a dry rockwool. And when should nutrients be introduced? Im using the pure blend pro.

  9. You should not introduce nutrients until your seedling is at least 2-3 weeks old, and even then you should start with a very low concentration.

  10. Lots of brilliant answers, 1 thing that may be getting overlooked about the current seedling-to-be I think though..

If it emerged a while ago, I think you said it came up a couple days ago (short term memory fail sorry if wrong), you can try to remove the seed shell IF it is very loose.

Good luck and never stop reading.

  11. I've got a single plant in a party cup, planted 4 days ago and I can see the sprout with the seed-head on top. Ive got the whole thing in a box with a hallogen bulb for lighting and holes for ventilation. Anything else I need to be doing? How often should I water?

    Thanks!

  12. You should allow the soil to dry out a little bit between watering. Go by the weight of the cup/pot. If you pick it up and it's light, water it. If you pick it up and it's heavy, wait. In a party cup, your seedling will probably need water every 4-7 days ( or more depending on your humidity, temps, how wet the soil was when you planted, etc.). Also, if your seedling emerges with the seed coat still attached, it's best if you don't try to pull it off. You can pull off the seed leaves with it and then you've got a dead seedling. Putting a small dab of saliva on the seed coat or giving it a light spray with a water bottle will usually help loosen it up and then it will fall off on its own or you can gently remove it.

  13. Just three days ago my seed sprouted with the seed casing still attached, so I used the tip of a knife to VERY GENTLY pry it off. Underneath were two beauttiiffuuuuull cotyledons and a very small set of true leaves. It's growing just fine now :). But yeah if you don't know what your doing you should just wait until it's super loose and you can just pull it off.

  14. Ok i started a new seed in paper towel. It germinated so i put it in rockwool cube under a dome. Its now been two days and it sprouted to about two inches tall....but the root is out the bottom of the rockwool.

Do i still leave it under the dome....will it sufficate under there? It hasnt got its first two real leaves yet.

  15. Prop up one edge of the dome to allow fresh air to circulate. If roots are showing out of the bottom of the rockwool, it's time to put that baby in a bigger pot!

  16. I now have one edge propped open so it get a little air. I am eventually putting the rockwool cube in hydroton in a net pot bubble bucket. Should i go ahead and put it in hydroton now over the bubbling water?

And maybe still keep the dome over it ?

  17. I don't do hydro, but I would assume that if the roots are growing out of the medium, it's time to move it to a bigger container (whether that container be filled with soil, hydroton, whatever). Idk what the hydro protocol is.

You want to keep the humidity high for a young seedling. If you can do that without the dome, that would be better, but if you have to you can keep the dome on it. Just remember to keep one edge propped up to allow air to circulate.

  18. Thank you very much for your input and fast response. I will keep it in the dome with lid propped open for another day or so and see what happends. The root is still underneath the rockwool and is not exposed to light just yet.

I want it to open up some more before i move it. Unless anyone else says otherwise.
