I believe the age of consent should be heightened (Read specifics before judging lol)

  1. It is not live & learn. We are not talking about getting ripped off by a used car salesmen.

As Azzanadra said, sex at a young age fucks people up. They are still developing mentally and sexually. A fully developed adult taking their sexual frustrations out on a suggestible & developing child changes their hard wiring and will have consequences on their relationships as adults. Not to mention the depression involved with being used.

  2. I should've elaborated. I meant humanity as a whole. People might have tolerated that behavior back then, but we won't now.

  3. And Idk if you noticed, but I'm the one who started this thread proposing the age of consent to be heightened. Lol.

  4. Right now I think it's fine aged 18 and I assure you government does all it can to help young people by talking to them one to one and offering free contraception.

I think the age of consent should be left alone at 18 because I would honestly date an 18 year old girl but I wouldn't date a 17 year old or younger.

To be honest though it's better to go with someone that's the same age as you I'm 25 so like I said I would date an 18 year old but really I wanna find smoke my own age.

  5. I think age of consent across the board should be 18 if you can carry a gun and die for your country you should have rights across the board. Delaying legal age creates a bunch of people who act stupid and blame it on not being an adult and still expect mommy and daddy to bail them out. Grow up freedom is not given, it’s taken

  6. Totally agree. Whether or not the age is heightened or lowered, it should be the same across the board. I've changed my stance on raising the age to 19 since I originally posted it. I thought about all of the cultural implications, legal trouble, and the fact that young adults usually start college at around 18. So now I believe 18 should stay the same. Lower the drinking age to 18 should be ratified though.

  7. Age is so arbitrary...

  8. I agree in a sense, but there needs to be an age in place for legal adulthood. Some mature faster than others, but not having an age of consent/drinking age/age of adulthood would have horrible implications IMO. If we said, "to hell with age, it's all arbitrary," we'd have old pervs taking advantage of young teens at a much higher rate since they no longer fear legal implications, young people could be potentially drafted overseas, drunk driving rates would go up 1000%, etc.

  9. It's a good idea....

  11. That is purely speculative, which is fine but there is data to the contrary i believe. In places with lower or no legal age for drinking, they have less problems. It isnt some glorified adult-only club, instead you have non-adults trying to act like an adult.

Here again I think parents need to be responsible for their children, raise them well and they will be fine.

What is your definition of adulthood anyway?

  12. We flood the country with sex. In music, movies, porn etc of course kids r gunna b drawn to it.

  13. I agree with drinking. I think we should start out by dropping the drinking age to 18, bc dropping it altogether without a gradual downfall would be too much of a culture shock and would cause nationwide protest.

And with adulthood, it ranges from 16-20s I believe. Still, if you compare the maturity of the average 22 y/o and maturity of the average 18 y/o, 22 y/o's will have more fleshed out goals and more grounded in their morals, despite the fact that there are specific individuals who are 18 who are more mature than specific individuals who are 22.

There are probably many 13 y/o's who can be trusted to drive a vehicle by themselves, but we wouldnt want to let every 13 y/o in the country obtain a drivers license at that age.

  14. I think there should be more interplay and responsibility with the parents.

Law is fundamentally about contract, so when is somebody mature enough to contract? I also think that parents should be responsible 100% for their offspring until the parent and child seperate responsibility by a contract that would essentially state

"parent is no longer responsible for child, child understands the equal and unalienable rights of themself and others, and along with that comes personal responsibility etc."

Drinking and driving should not be "illegal", however, if you respect your rights and others rights, you will do all in your power to not violate them. Drinking and driving is stupid, but it does not violate others in and of itself. Maybe we should have an unwritten courtesy/etiquette where people drive with their hazard lights on so other people at least know who on the road is a potential hazard, but people won't do that now because of the bullshit preemptive 'law'. Maybe bars need to step up to the plate and offer their own solution, I can think of plenty.

It seems to me that the preemptive laws just make for less personal responsibility.
