As soon as I saw the Dali Lama running around in the trailer, I realized that this is a film that I am not going to watch.

Hank, if we are already all connected and built to cooperate with one another, don you think that promoting cooperation through democracy is, at best, redundant?

The trailer said democracy and cooperation are in our DNA, if this were true the world be much different. Infact if that were true the documentary would not need to be made.

 

i will buy cooperation is in our DNA, but it is not for the reason that the socialists think. we cooperate out of self-interest alone. we may become transient members of a group as it suits our needs. but dedication to the group is not for the sake of the group, it is for the sake of their own survival/success. altruism is a manifestation of self-interest disguised as compliance and cooperation.

I think the underlying propaganda overwhelms the urge to conform. Conform by getting a job, having kids, and not giving a shit who is in the oval office as long as bombs aren't being dropped over your head.

The Prisoner's Dilemma shows that people are generally selfish even if it's in their own interest to cooperate. The idea of cooperation being ingrained in our DNA is completely contrary to Social Darwinism so maybe you'd like to present some of this "science" before you make more claims?

 

he is a leftist...they usually reject social darwinism...but embrace it fully on a biological level.

 

I watched this documentary about three weeks ago ...I enjoyed it. It gives you a different perspective on life and was interesting the whole way through. The part about argon in the atmosphere, that humans today are breathing the same gas as dinosaurs and, potentially, Jesus did was quite thought-provoking.

 

I watched the trailer. Seemed pretty interesting.

Curious to see how it ties into democratic socialism. I wish the trailer would have dropped a couple scientific bits about how we're all connected instead of just a bunch of people saying that we are. In anything, I hope the film makes the point that we should all be helping each other voluntarily, not forcing people to. If it makes its way online and I'm high later I might have to check it out.
