I’m more restricted this grow and was seeking advice on a couple of things given my new limitations.

  1. It's been a couple years since my last grow and I forgot my account password and email since then, hence the new account. I can remember a good amount from my last run but this time around, I need to do things differently and am unfortunately more restricted. I was hoping to get some opinions and advice on the best direction to move forward, as I'm working through the planning stage right now.
\nI've got some Critical Mass seeds that I will be trying for the first time and will be doing this in an armoire. My dimensions are limited, 20” wide and 27” long and about 3 foot high and I'm gonna go for two plants this time around. My lighting is limited, as I'll only be able to max out at six 60 watt cfls. I plan to use cocoa again and mix in some perelite if I can get my hands on some. I will also be using smartpots again, but will start in plastic party cups.
\nI enjoy doing my own research and limiting threads, which is why I'll limit my questions to ones that I can't really look up and are pertinent to my conditions. I was thinking I should top my plants when the appropriate time comes due to my limited height, but then I thought more into it and wasn't sure if that would be in their best interest with the limited width and length. This strain is more sativa than indica by the way. I wanted to know what others thought about topping though, given my circumstances. (I will also be doing some lst in either case)
\nMy other concern is the containers. I don't mind the extra expenses that come with larger pots and I want to maximize the yield, yet with my limited dimensions and lighting, I was wondering if getting them each in 5 gallon containers would be too much. I understand that I can start the flowering process before things get out of hand regardless of the container size, but I didn't know if I would be better off sticking with 3 gallon containers if my roots weren't going to expand past that pot size by the time the plants finish (the flowering time is approximately 55 days). Anything else that someone wants to bring up, whether its something for me to consider or questions they have themselves, feel free. I would do my best to assist with the latter.

  2. If you're going to do a short veg/early flower anyway, I would just keep the 5 gal and maybe not fill it up completely?

the more room your roots have the stronger it'll grow, so don't downsize your pots even if you're low on space unless the pot can't physically fit in the dimensions you have available.

  3. If you get a mostly sativa pheno your gona out grow that three feet. They will stretch around 2/3 your hight befor tripping the lights. So you trip at a foot you'll end up at three ft. Youll definitely want to lst. And i personally woyld top around the fifth or six that way you can tie both at 90¤ aposing each other. This will make a nice symmetrical lst that distributes energy evenly. I need to start to manifold my lst. They get side heavy when there bone dry and they almost want to tip. Take a look through my journal. You may get some ideas. Any questions ask away.

Heres an example of my lst. There less then a foot from the top of the pot to the top of the colas. I should get at least an oz and a half off each.

Thanks for the advice kronity. I'll give the 5 gallons a go this time. Thats what I transplanted up to last time as well. Thankfully I've got just enough room to fit the containers in there.

Your setup looks just as nice as the plants themselves stanky, great work. I think I topped after the fifth last time and I did lst very similar to the way you've approached it. I'll be giving that a go this time around as well, as I had good results from keeping an even height distribution like you recommend. And thanks for the tip on the height. I'll make sure to flip when they get a foot tall.

  5. I reckon you've got enough space for 2 5 gallon pots. Id just lst them during a 6 week vege to fill out the space and keep them below one foot in height before you switch to 12/12. Sounds like a pretty decent set up.
