Hydroton raising pH

  1. Hi folks,

First of all, mistakes were made. I've done a few coco-grows and thought I've got this in the bag. I hadn't.

The pH was rising everyday, so I took out the plants and gave the hydroton a bath in Citric acid, pH 3 for 2 days. The last 24 hours the pH was constant, so I thought it was ready. After filling up the res with nutrientwater I quickly learned that it wasn't.

So, I'm adjusting pH 3 times a day currently. It's ~8 in the morning, adjusting to ~5.8. I have 2 questions:

    1. Will it stabilize eventually if I keep adjusting it every day?

    2. My Terra Aquatica pH down contains 10% citric acid, which I've heard lowers the ph right away but then it increases back to where it was. Unfortunately this is the case with my pH down, I tried it in clean water adjusted to 6.0, after 24 hours the water was 7.8. Is this common behaviour of pH down? Should I buy a different brand?

    Any input is much appreciated!

  2. Relax.......it will straighten out.
I had that issue when I ran waterfarms.........even when I soaked the hydroton.
I'm not familiar with the pH down you are using.........I use GH pH down.

  3. Thanks for your answer! When you adjust your ph, does it stay low for 24 hours or no? I'm wondering if this is normal behaviour for my ph down. I can adjust clean water in a bucket to 5.5, and 12hrs later it's 6.5-7.0.
