Hydroponic setup light question

Discussion in 'Advanced Growing Techniques' started by Grandaddy, Feb 14, 2010.

  1. I asked some questions in the Hydroponics thread but didn't get any replies, so I want to copy them over here and re-ask them plus add a new question

After maybe 1-2 weeks after sprout, when you transfer the sprout to the hydro system, what is a good nutrient solution for them to be introduced to? I assume you wouldn't want to give them a full feeding of nutrients, or would you? Maybe like half?

The hydro it I bought came with silica stone; should I switch from this to the clay pebbles? When I put the seedling in my medium should I make a hole with my finger and let the roots get to the bottom of that?

Also, I'm trying to get 4 plants going. I want to start flowering when they're about 1 1/2 feet tall. What is an ideal HPS setup for 4 plants? How many watts or lumens would they need?

  2. Anything? Nothing?

  3. Who's dick do you have to suck to get an answer around here? I thought this was the best forum for this kind of stuff.

  4. Post in the Absolute Beginners and you should get an answer pretty quick. We are Coco growers so can't help you with the hyrdro question. Also some simple searches should help you get your answers as well. Sometimes it is good to watch and learn for a few months to really know how best to move forward.

  5. Thanks alot. I guess I thought this was for soil-less growing. Quick question, what exactly is Coco growing? Also, I see you live in Texas as well. Do you ever have trouble with your growing? This would be my 2nd indoor grow and 1st hydro, and I don't know why I'm just getting a little nervous with this one.

  6. coco fiber, it is a "throw away" product of the coconut (coconut husks). Come on by the Grove and see what it can do. Growth seems to be in the middle of soil and hydro. We are in Texas. The key here is to either have your temps controlled or close up shop between July/August due to the heat. Trust in your skills or step back and research more before diving it. Alternately, get a journal going and then growers will come by and help you out if needed with things. You might not see something in a picture of your plants however others might. It is just a good way to go. Good luck with your grow!

  7. MrsEd is just being difficult. This is the Advanced Growing Techniques sub-forum, not the cocoa medium sub-forum. I use clay pellets in a homemade Aeroponic system (sprinkler heads & pumps)... I also clone hydroponically.

When I take clones I use 2x Daisy Cloners. They are available at the Hydro store and the clones show roots after day 5, they are ready for transplant into my Aero system after day 10... After the transition on day 10 I like to move the lights in close (CFLs) and keep them on a 1/4 strength GH grow/mirco/bloom equally. (usually 1TSP or 5ml of each in my 4gal reservoir)... I do this for about 5 more days to promote root growth along with some Diamond Nectar. Then on day 15 when the roots are nice and long and they're showing signs of new veg growth, I'll introduce the full line of veg. nutrients

  8. How am I being difficult exactly? The guy had questions, obviously was not getting answers one place, then posted here, bumped and then bumped again himself trying to get an answer. I tried to help him out. He then asked me questions directly and I answered. How is that considered being difficult?

  9. sigh, I had a feeling you wouldn't just let it ride, lol.

I feel you're being difficult by directing the guy to other areas of the site when I this sub-forum (advanced techniques) should be more than qualified to help the guy with his issue. That, coupled with you speaking for the entire sub-forum, telling him that "We are Coco growers so can't help you with the hyrdro question." is a very misleading statement.

All in all, I was simply explaining to him that I could imagine that your answer to his question was simply making it more difficult or confusing for him because he came to right place and there ARE people here that can and are willing to lend advise.

    I meant no harm :)

  10. hey grandaddy- I would just use a 600w hps, it's a bit much for 4 but you can veg longer or add more plants in the future. i take my clones out with 6 or 8 inch roots and coil them around evenly into my clay, works good. Also I use BC nutrients and followed the schedule, I'll tell you it if u want to know
