Hydroelectric power?

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by KushBush420P, Oct 8, 2011.

  1. So I've been trying to think of a way to get power to my secret underground grow room which is located deep in the woods. The only practical thing I could come up with is using the nearby river as a source of hydro electric power. My question is what kind of system would I need, where could I get it, and it would need to be discreet looking or easy to camouflage. Also how would I go about transferring the energy collect to grow lights?

  2. If your handy build a trough to a hidden spot, the trough will carry water. Once your far enough away from the creek and the trough 8 feet high, you need to get an old industrial impeller pump. Have the water piped to flow through the impeller. Then link the impeller to an electric generator, you can get one from an old gas generator, find a generator with a bad engine but good electrical s. Link generator to impeller. You may beed to help it get spinning. Once spinning you need to check to see how much power its making, use a volt meter, adjust the water flow to get the amount of power you need.

The trough may have to be big, big like a 10-15 inch pipe, your going to want at least 8-10 feet of drop in the pipe leading into the impeller, also the impeller needs to be big, maybe 2-4 feet across. If hooked up right and depending on how much water flows through your river you may get a really stable power supply.

I can do the math and figure out how much water you will need and how much head and how big of an impeller you will need if you tell me how how many watts your are planning on running. It is possible, the hard part is the trough, it may need to be a hundred yards depending on geography in your area. If there is a water fall near by it will help you a lot!
