hydro v. aero

Discussion in 'Advanced Growing Techniques' started by Quins, Aug 29, 2007.

  1. Could anyone tell me the pros and cons of these?
I'm have a pretty firm knowledge on hydroponic systems, but I wasn't sure if aero was the new term to use or if it was something entirely different.

  2. Aeroponics is when the roots are dangling in the air, fed and kept moist by a nutrient water mist sprayed on them with little nozzles.

  3. Aeroponics looks like it needs a tad bit more maintenance then hydro. Hydro's roots just sit in solution, so its always getting watered, but aero seems like you would mist them every so often, so you'd have to in-a-way manually water them when you mist...

  4. naw man an aero system automatically mists the roots. The maintenance is about the same like in mixing nutrients, but the margin of error in aero is less. Also technically aero and hydro are both considered hydroponic gardening and If you are choosing a hydro system I recommend Deep water culture or a bubble bucket, it is a good mix between traditional hydro and aeroponics.:hello:

  5. On a large scale, aeroponics is hard to do, in my opinion. You deal with PH problems, and also need constant pumps running, which means more frequent burn-outs. Aeroponic systems are supposed to basically die after the water shuts off, they need CONSTANT misting.

If you're doing a small setup, do it. It's fun, it works well. It's just more to go wrong and break and cause the loss of harvest.

  6. thanks for all the info guys!

Does anyone prefer one to the other?
Other than the margin for error, are there any other benefits to choosing one over the other?
