Hello, GC. Thanks for stopping by my first grow journal. I've been lurking on Grasscity for over a month now, and the knowledge and tips I've picked up have been priceless so far. And now, I'm honored to contribute a little something back to the community. This is my second grow. The week of Christmas I harvested my first ever crop of 3 Caramelicious females, with seeds ordered from Amsterdam Marijuana Seeds. The strain was hand-picked by my mother, who smokes more than I do I got about 5 ounces from the harvest. Now, armed with knowledge AND experience, I'm set for round 2. The skinny on the grow: Strain: 5 OG Kush clones purchased from a local dispensary in Southern California SCROG dimensions: 4' long X 2' wide X 2' from the ground Lighting: 400watt HPS, it's been nearly 5 months since I purchased the bulb, so specifics fail me, but it is a dual-spectrum HPS. Nutrients: Supernatural Gro Aqua (veg food), Advanced Nutrients Big Bud (flower), Humboldt County's Own Snow Storm Ultra & Gravity flower enhancer. 1/3 Excellofizz puck/daily for CO2 enrichment. I feed for 30 minutes every 2 hours in an ebb & flow system. I purchased/planted the clones on 1/4/2010. Here's a weekly breakdown of the action so far: 1/4 - 1/10: Gro Aqua solution, gave the clones 18/6 light. In this week's span, the clones doubled in size. Since I'm fitting 5 plants under a scrog, this is the only vegetative time I gave them. 1/11 - 1/17: Switched to 12/12 light. The OG Kush is supposed to flower for 10 weeks, so I'm told. I topped the top growth of each plant on 1/11 and started feeding flowering solution. 1/18 - 1/24: Added 2 Tsp of Snow Storm Ultra to flowering solution, and gave the plants their first foliar feeding of Snow Storm. The very next day after application, all 5 plants showed multiple female pre-flowers. Began to train growth over screen and used twist-ties to maximize screen space and ensure proper light penetration to buds. 1/25 - 2/1: Trimmed all leaf growth underneath the screen. Continued with foliar application of Snow Storm every 4 days, misting with purified water 2 days after foliar feedings. Buds are forming like crazy, and are already noticeably firm. On 1/28 I received my order of seeds from Attitude. I started germinating a feminized Power Plant, fem Pineapple Express, and fem Strawberry Cough. I intend on keeping these 3 alive as mothers in my veg area with 6 23W CFLs (9600 total lumens) and cloning them to continue a perpetual harvest. All pictures were taken this morning (2/2/10). I appreciate every single individual who takes the time to come through this thread. Advice is always welcome, so please don't hold back. I'll continue to update regularly.
I'm in to watch. Nothing much to say at this point, other than good luck. Had I gotten in earlier I might have suggested more extreme LST.
Nice going dude. I am stumbling thru my first hydro grow right now and will watch how your goes all the way. One thing.....need to get those cfl's horizontal and a refletor over it to man. Wasting tons of light like that....
BTW one of my plants is a strawberry cough from dutch passion. Bought at the TUDE too. Seed cracked on 1-7. Had a prob with hard water but thats fixed now we will see how she does
Thanks for stopping by, everyone. Someone mentioned reflectors on my CFLs to keep from wasting light. Do CFLs project the majority of their light off of the sides of the bulb? Would it be best to simply have all 6 bulbs hanging nearly horizontally? My intention is to eventually have the bulbs hanging 2 - 3 inches in between my 3 mother plants in soil, kind of per the step-by-step instructions in Buds for Less by SeeMoreBuds. What kind of reflector might be suggested for this use? I've never used CFLs to grow before. Seriously everyone, your helpful comments are much appreciated, and it's awesome to know there's folks watching my little girls with me
I was trying to choose 4 or 5 strains to hold on to, and as soon as I laid my eyes on her, I knew I had to have her As of this afternoon, the Pineapple Express seed has cracked the surface of her rockwool cube and showing her first set of true leaves. I can see the Strawberry Cough and Power Plant coming through right now, and should be up and unfurled by this evening. I usually go with reverse osmosis drinking water for all purposes; a TDS meter is my next purchase so I can really fine-tune all of my nutrient solutions.
